I was talking about "civility," not about "rights" (I made that very clear). Both the restaurant and the protestors may be within their rights to do what they did (the restaurant especially -- there is no protection for political beliefs when a private establishment chooses to boot someone out). But there was a LOT of pearl clutching (what the restaurant staff might have done, how bigoted the owner was to make her own political stand) about what happened to Sanders. There was a calm and respectful conversation between Sanders and the restaurant owner or manager. In Michigan there are people with bullhorns and guns shouting obscenities while the woman inside the house is trying to decorate a Xmas tree with her four year old.

I'm sorry, I live on planet Earth. These things are not like each other.

She was thrown out of a restaurant because of people's TDS. Didn't even have anything to do with her. I do agree, this has little to do with rights, but common decency where we respect that we can disagree with people and not set out to ruin their lives. Unfortunately for the left this extends far beyond SS and symbolizes their overall turn to authoritarianism, whether on "rights" or simply in the public sphere. The desire to get people fired for wrongthink, ruin their business, etc. is just as unhinged and destructively malicious, and for me, these actions have contributed significantly to my animosity, given where I'm from and all the years of fighting it took just to normalize free speech, for these very same people to suddenly shift to become authoritarians trying to wreck havoc all because an election didn't go their way. To hell with that.
