Wait, isn't this Antifa attempting to kidnap the Governor, phoning in death threats and protesting outside people's homes?

No, I think they were too busy trying to kill Ted Wheeler and a whole lot of police officers.

Okay maybe a blonde moment, but it was the death of civility when Sarah Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant, but it's totally cool to march around with guns outside of someone's home and shouting obscenities? Just waking up and wanted to check.

You equate these as the same thing?  Was Sarah Sanders an elected official?  Did Sarah Sanders come out herself and play the victim?

Being an elected state official and being a member of the president's administration? Yeah, I'd say that's about equal. Sanders was the press secretary, a very high profile position, and no one forced her to take the job.

Still a big stretch, plus Sarah Sanders did not make it a big deal, others may have, but not her which is not the case at all with the MI SoS.

Armed protestors showing up outside your house isn't a big deal? Oh, okay.

Honestly I do not even understand a universe in which it is okay to show up with weapons outside of an elected official's home. I genuinely cannot get to that place.

She complain-tweeted about it, to which it then blew up and became a major thing with everyone chiming in their two cents.

Is there a universe where it's okay to show up with weapons and yell obscenities outside of anyone's home? Why I seem to recall a couple getting mighty upset and bringing their own weapons to the party. Perhaps the elected official should have used that example.

Still a poor premise, this was not just anyone, but in fact a statewide elected official.  If they did not want to be subject to potential protest, then why run for the job?  Now if you want to talk about someone protesting just anybody, you can go back and review the firebombing of the private citizens house elsewhere in MI just because they have a Trump sign up.

As to the protesters being armed, it is not surprising the Leftist media choose to highlight this.  I have seen no local stories of anyone brandishing those weapons in a menacing manner, or using them as threats to do harm to the MI SoS or her family.

Layla tried to posit the equivalency with Sarah Sanders, but in that case it was not Sanders herself that made this a story, she left the bigoted establishment peacefully without incident which I would in her position (always hear about stories of what kitchen staff does to patron's food behind the scenes).  Others may have made an issue of it, and indeed, it was worthy of pointing out how bigoted an establishment can be so others are warned.  In this case it is the MI SoS making this a big deal probably in a way to act the victim.

Regardless, it still boils down to people's constitutional rights.  As far as I know, they do not end when the sun goes down.

I was talking about "civility," not about "rights" (I made that very clear). Both the restaurant and the protestors may be within their rights to do what they did (the restaurant especially -- there is no protection for political beliefs when a private establishment chooses to boot someone out). But there was a LOT of pearl clutching (what the restaurant staff might have done, how bigoted the owner was to make her own political stand) about what happened to Sanders. There was a calm and respectful conversation between Sanders and the restaurant owner or manager. In Michigan there are people with bullhorns and guns shouting obscenities while the woman inside the house is trying to decorate a Xmas tree with her four year old.

I'm sorry, I live on planet Earth. These things are not like each other.

Yes, they are not like each other, one was protesting an elected official, and the other was a private business refusing the right to serve someone based on a political belief.  We can believe anything we want.

What does that have to do with what I was speaking of, which was civility? I think I have mentioned that word at least three times now. This is about civility. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. What does it add to the public discourse to show up armed, with bullhorns, shouting obscenities?

I seriously do not know why I am continuing here, because it really makes no sense to me how anyone could see that kind of protest as doing ANYTHING constructive. It is a show of power and force, meant to intimidate. I can tell you that if it happened to me, and I were an elected official, I don't know that I'd be able to stop my husband from trying to tear the people outside limb from limb.

This is so bizarre. This country is so bizarre.

As far as I can tell locally, people can protest on a residential street, but it's illegal to target a private residence or property if requested to leave. You can't stand in front of a single individual house. There are also laws against restricting access.

Personally I would just call the police. People who carry firearms to protest in front of a private residence may have other issues going on. Probably not wise to engage them in any way.
