Hey all,

It's been ages since I've posted on this forum - it was heaps of help for my wife's journey.  She's now  U.S. citizen - the journey starting roughly in 2003... from packets, to green cards and finally as of a few of years ago, citizenship :) .

I come back with a question that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to.  My wife is originally from Beijing and is needing to cancel her hukou stateside for various reasons.  Has anyone had any experience with how to do this - the proper way and what you to do in order to get it done ;o ?  We keep on coming up with conflicting information, so we're hoping someone here may know a few answered to this mess :) .

General things we've come across so far / questions:

-We're not sure if what she needs to write to the local office in Beijing needs to be notarized or not (I assume by the embassy in Washington DC if it does?

-It looks like her passport page needs to be translated.

-My wife has changed her last name to my family name, but everything is registered in China under her maiden name.  Her old, expired Chinese passport has a note that she is "aka" my family name, but how do we get around this hiccup?  It's not the first time we've stumbled into this situation ;o .

Anywho, thanks all in advance for any help and here's a happy end to the year ^^ (hopefully)!!!

She should be able to contact the local office in Beijing to find out what they need. Any US notarization would need to be authenticated by the Secretary of State of the state where the notarization and/or document were issued, the Chinese consulate or embassy would then authenticate the Secretary of State seal.

I don't think they'll need her passport to be translated.

All of her documentation in China is in her maiden name. The alias page in her old passport, and her marriage certificate should clear up any confusion, but I would expect that she would use her Chinese name in her communications with the Beijing office.

Again - the local office in Beijing is where she needs to ask these questions.
