Any chance of getting an interview sooner than the embassy schedule?

The embassy schedule shows that their interviews are now out to Feb 10. This is fine, I'm not trying to make it happen sooner. I'm just wondering if we file the DS160 now, is there a chance that they could schedule us for an earlier date? I'm trying to coordinate with my joint sponsor and I don't want to get caught off guard.

There is no way to move your scheduled appointment apart from an expeditated approved request (google for more information and the requirements) or another date opens (keep checking your embassy's appointment schedular), and you snag it. Filing the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application is a requirement for everyone so you and others would be wrestling just the same for the number of open allotted interview slots. You'll just get in line and move forward with others. That is the reality of the situation as it stands now.

The interview schedule says Feb 10. I'm totally ok with this. I'm just trying to make sure that they won't move it alot sooner (perhaps due to an earlier opening). For example, if they schedule it for Feb 11, great. I'd rather have that date than say, January 3rd. I'm just trying to ascertain how they schedule these once they receive the DS160 and the payment.

They won't move it as it is the applicant who schedules the k1 interview

I was under the impression that they assign an interview date. You're saying that we pick the date from a list of available dates?

For a spouse visa but not for a k1.  A k1 applicant chooses the date

It depends on the embassy/consulate and the situation.  Juarez assigned us a date.

My answer was specific to the OP, not a generalization. 

 

However,  if I was generally speaking,  only a  HANDFUL of consulates assign.

Some embassies assign the interview date, but Cambodia does not. You schedule. There isn't much you can do before you receive the instructions from the embassy as they will have the scheduling sight locked until you pay the fee, complete DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application and they do require you email the embassy with your conformation page from the filing of your DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. At that time, they will "flip" the switch so you can schedule your interview.

 

Not all embassies are the same. So, take a deep breath and wait for the P3 letter to be emailed to you before you can proceed.

Just an update...

 

The embassy received our petition on 11/15. Neither of us received the P3 or any communication at all from the embassy. We checked the status online and it said "ready for interview". So on 12/5 we filed the DS160, emailed the confirmation page, paid the MRV fee. A few days later the embassy assigned an interview for late January. It says we are allowed to reschedule up to 3 times before we have to pay the MRV fee again.

Thank you for the links. The P3 I found has the same date, 22-Oct-2020.
