Hi all,

Just prepping my N-400 to file in the next few weeks, and was having a look at the accompanying instructions. In the 'Required Evidence' section, it points out that I will need a valid state-issued identification to bring along with me to the interview. I currently don't drive (was learning pre-pandemic), so I think my options are either a non-drivers license, or a REAL ID. Does anyone happen to know whether REAL ID would be acceptable for this purpose?

My local field office is showing between 14.5 and 17 months to process the N-400 currently, so I have a bit of time for life to get back to normal in terms of COVID, resuming driving lessons and hopefully passing the test/getting my state driving license. Just thinking that if I somehow rely on the drivers license, and (repeatedly) fail spectacularly at driving (I'm a nervous adult learner) - I might be in a bit of time pressured situation of not having a valid state ID. So, I could in theory fall back on to REAL ID as my accompanying evidence - if it is indeed viewed as a valid ID to bring to the interview.

Thanks,

AM

Hi AM! The latest state issued ID cards that have a black star or gold star ARE what you referred to as a REAL ID. State IDs are a valid form of state-issued identification. You do not need a driver's license if you are not a driver.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

This is true for general ID, but I think the state ID is to prove residence in the FO jurisdiction. It was a while back now but I’m pretty sure my IO took copies of both my GC and DL. That said..l just checked my actual N400 interview letter and it doesn’t list state ID.
