I got dq today. Submitted all docs may 19th.

I submitted the code 33 police check. Front and back scanned.

I honestly think some people just get unlucky with the person who looks at it.

Oh no!  This is just so unfair!  Now you’re in the HOLD pile again and will, I suppose, need to reach out to AFP for assistance and further documentation!  Nuts!!!

What will you do and please keep

us posted!!

I’ve reached out to my US congressman from Oregon and will ask for his help even as we wait for our own reply from NVC  (having used reason code #35 and dq’d first try and then, like you, used #33 the second try as well).  We submitted that second try on June 20, actually, and it’s now July 29 and still waiting.

No dq in this context is good! It means ‘Document Qualified’ - which is the email they send you saying that. so I’m onto the next stage!

Oh!  Honestly, that’s great news!  I did not know that that abbreviation DQ meant document qualified.  What a relief! I feel great for you and better for our own possibility of being excepted as well.  I appreciate your rapid response and correction of my misunderstanding

No problem at all. It’s been a nervous week knowing we would be reviewed soon. Happy this part is done.

wishing you and all others on this thread good luck! You have the right checks, just hopefully the person looking at your case sees that.

Thanks for the update and best wishes to you, as well.  DQ in context of sports means “disqualified” so that was my thought and “document qualified” wasn’t in my mind!  😂

Our next step after all documents qualify, and the AFP is the last one, is interview.  Can barely wait as I sit in USA and English hubby sits alone waiting in Taiwan….it’s dragging out far too long!!

Thank you so much for your quick reply!! We only just found out four hours ago, this morning our time, where we are now in Taiwan. And so we are anxious to move along on this because due to the pandemic and a lot of delays, bureaucracy getting original copies of the required documents for the immigration visa application, it took two full years to submit all required documents . And we’ve had to extend our stay in Taiwan and renew a house lease into Dec 2022.

I think we made the mistake of not reading very very closely the travel.state.gov directions for Australia.

We probably did not select “purpose type” and “Commonwealth employment/purpose” and then we checked code 35 instead of code 33 “Immigration/citizenship – for supply to the department of immigration and border protection.” All this is written in the Reciprocity Schedule for Australia on the Travel.State.Gov website.

Do you think that’s what we need to do? Do we need to bother with fingerprints?

That will just add another level of frustration. However, I think we know how to do it. My husband is English but he lived in UK, Australia, Canada, UK and Taiwan needed police checks for all four.  He did need fingerprints for Canada.Only the Australia background check was rejected. I think it must be because we did not choose the right code.

Dear Sir/Madam.

If you are applying for US Immigration purposes please choose Code 33.

Thanks everyone for the responses and sharing your stories! I know some time has passed but we are in the same situation. We submitted our police check 3 times now and are certain it’s correct and it just got rejected again. First time was the wrong one (35) and then we submitted 33 and it got rejected and we submitted 33 again with a PDFed letter form the AFP and it still got rejected.
We don’t know what to do and are so sad and frustrated.

I just wrote our local senators. Did that help at all?

Also the people who said the us had a supervisor look at it - how did you get a supervisor to look at it? We can’t get in contact with the NVC and even the inquiry email takes months to get a response.

What was the wording on the RFE you got each time?

@mekbus what did you submit for your NZ police check? Just had mine rejected again, we uploaded the request form, and acknowledgement email from NZ vetting.

Got this response from NVC today "Please submit a police certificate for JED from NEW ZEALAND"

I am now at a complete loss on what to do

Friends … I’ve no information about NZ police checks because we just need Australia’s AFP.  Sorry those NZ ones are also problematic!

To verify we had ordered the correct Australia AFP in June (inquiry code #33), we asked my own US Senator Jeff Merkley (Oregon) for help.  His Constituent Services Director contacted NVC directly and quickly on our behalf.  I imagine all US Senators have such a staffer.  Reach out to them; that’s my only suggestion.

If you’ve uploaded document from #33 code request and it’s been rejected twice (!!), then I’m truly sorry and worried we may have same result soon!!  We used #35 first and received an RFE.  We quickly sent in document from code #33 request in late June and it was officially submitted into our case file on July 18, 2022.  It’s now Sept 14, 2022.  Still waiting!

This is the last piece of paper we believe is needed to complete our case and move to an interview date.  Thus, we’re also on pins and needles!

Maybe NVC simply doesn’t know what the correct AFP document #33 even looks like!!!

Our AFP code #33 resulting document reads: “Immigration/Citizenship-Australia.  Name Check Only.  This is to certify that there are no disclosable court case outcomes recorded against the name of …”

FYI … here’s what Sen Merkley’s staffer replied,

I asked about the Australian Federal Police background check and they confirmed that if the document was submitted with inquiry code #33, that is indeed correct and would be what they are looking for in order to documentarily complete the case. Their website has also been updated to show the information about selecting inquiry code #33 rather than #35.

I got NOA2 and am about to submit documents to NVC, and this is by far the thing that I am most worried about because it seems like NVC doesn't know the wording on the police check changed, and there's no phones to contact them anymore. I'm working on finding out who my Senator would be since I've been overseas and my voting registration in Oregon randomly lapsed somehow even though I voted in the last thing, hopefully it doesn't come to that though.

Chanel - You’re also an Oregonian?  Our senators are Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden.  You do not need to be a registered voter in order to contact them. In fact, you can simply say you are an Oregonian.

I contacted Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley and got a rapid response from his staff member for constituent issues.  I just wrote her again yesterday on this very question (AFP denials) after reading the Visa Journey latest posts.  You may also need to go online to his website to fill out a form.  Good luck!

That there are two Oregonians facing this SAME concern (NVC and AFP denials), it may even get more attention! Maybe.

Here’s the Email address to use and I suggest you create an attention getting subject line:
