I guess what I wonder is how Flynn thinks this is actually helping us as a nation during a really tough time. I mean, when you have issues with small-d democratic institutions, the solution is more and better democracy, not totalitarianism.

The lure of nationalism and totalitarianism is attractive though, and is often thought of as the fastest and best solution to those that desire power. Why would a person want more free republic democracy when it doesn't fit their purposes?

@yuna628 nailed it, for the powerful and wealthy--and especially for someone who, like Flynn, might feel unjustly persecuted--tyranny is an acceptable outcome as long as it's for their side. They see nationalism as a good thing because it supports their own motivations and ideologies. They give lip service to democracy, but they don't really believe in democracy. And whatever bad side effects may come of the tyranny they preach, they believe they are wealthy and powerful enough to avoid those side effects. They don't so much believe in a strong republic as they believe in a strong oligarchy.

My dad's still a registered Democrat and he voted for Trump in 2016. I don't think he voted for either Biden or Trump this time around.

I don't know but Obama fired him, warned Trump about him, and then Trump hired him anyway, before he fired him, said he hardly knew him and then pardoned him. 

 

The man took an oath to uphold the constitution, he plead guilty to violating that oath.

While in uniform Flynn was a awesome military leader but in retirement I didn't like him that much which I have said so repeatedly here. But what he did was not a crime at all. He just pled guilty because the FBI said "Plead guilty or we will go after your son". 

 

He didn't go to jail for violating that oath

Like others in 2016/17 I thought the Flynn thing was done in good faith but after seeing the investigatory methodology, withholding of exculpatory evidence, and now extortion/blackmail, not to mention the litany of unmaskings done by key Obama officials on Trump people and the secrecy of this, I absolutely can't blame Flynn for taking such an approach when his life was ruined by people in government abusing power against him, his family, and his President. Of course, since a growingly extreme left need a moral equivalence to justify their extremism, shouldn't be a shock you see that demographic doing their best to play this up like it stands any reasonable chance of happening. Meanwhile, they play down when not ignoring completely the regularity of violence and domestic terrorism actually occurring since Floyd throughout the country that they'd easily be likening to a civil war had this been conservative people, but because they lack any real parallel developments of extremism (yet, I do note the potential of it), the need to exaggerate words alone is necessary.
