Hi there.

I was hoping for a little advise as I have still not received my SS card, I did tick that box to request it during the CR1 process. I have also not received my residency card which should be a 10 year card based on me moving on our 2 year marriage anniversary.

I believe I need to visit the Social Security Administration office but I am not exactly sure what I should be asking for and at the moment they are all closed but I can call them.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on this?

Kind regards, Matt

Definitely call them since it's passed 3 weeks. Some local offices are giving in-person appointments: https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/

I need help with my Social Security Number (SSN)

We are prioritizing requests for in-person SSN services for:

  • Individuals age 12 or older applying for their first SSN card.
  • Individuals who need to update or correct their SSN information (such as your name, date of birth, or citizenship) to obtain income, resources, or medical care or coverage, or other services or benefits (for example filing a tax return, applying for housing, or seeking an Economic Impact Payment).

If you believe you qualify for an in-person appointment, call your local office. You can look up the phone number for your local office by accessing our office locator. Please note that appointments may not be immediately available, depending on local health and safety conditions and staffing.

Did you pay the $220 USCIS Immigrant Fee after the visa was issued? In either way, this is still in normal processing timeframe: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/expect-green-card

Note that the link now says "90" days. Until recently it actually said "120" days instead. Archived link from 3 weeks ago: https://web.archive.org/web/20201111235539/https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/expect-green-card

Hi there.

We did pay the $220 Immigrant fee, we paid a few weeks before I flew to the US.

I will call them tomorrow! Thanks for your advise.

Yes, you are correct. You should be issued 10-year GC. I say "should" because sometimes USCIS makes mistake. If they issue you the wrong card, you will have to submit a Form I-90 to correct it. Reason (D) is free to file; "My existing card has incorrect data because of Department of Homeland Security error"

Yup. When they issue the cards, sometimes they commit different errors like misspelled name, wrong card type, etc. But imagine if USCIS tried to profit from their own incompetence. That would be complete insanity.

After 3 weeks of not receiving my husbands card we made an appointment at our local SS office.  They filled out the necessary paperwork and we received the card 10 days later.   They told us it happens from time to time and sometimes communication doesn't get where it needs to go.   We went during Covid so you must have an appointment to enter the office and not all offices were taking appointments so you may need to call around.

The green card was another issue.   I contacted USCIS because we heard nothing.  Once I reached out to the our status on USCIS changed to card was issued and mailed but weeks later we still didn't get it.  Then I sent a] another message through the site where I was told the card was returned undeliverable.   Even though they have my correct address and I have lived here for 16 years .  I had to fill outa online form that the card was not received and they resent it.   This time when the card was sent we were given a tracking number.   I honestly don't think the card was ever sent the first time again some kind of clerical error.    Contact them they should at least give you the status of the processing of your card.

Good luck!

Reiterating the above. Contact USCIS and make sure the information is correct. We received our GC without issue... though I discovered I had given the wrong zip code by accident. Regardless tracking updated and DH received his GC in less than two weeks from entry.

For the SSC, just call your local office once you have your green card (though it may be worth asking if they will accept the visa sticker). New SSN folks are considered emergencies, so they will schedule an appointment with you.

We went through a long back and forth between USCIS and SSA, where USCIS basically said they never made the request for a SSN to SSA for our application. The SSA officer eventually said to call local office. We did and the operator looked up DH and found no SSN, so set up a call back to schedule the interview. The local office called back that evening and we were scheduled for an appointment the next day. Phew. Now just waiting for the SSC so DH can finalize work needs!

SSN = social security number

SSC = social security card

SSA = social security administration

welcome to immigration life, where everything has an acronym 🤪

Can anyone inform me how I can track my green card status? Since the link here: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

Asks for a receipt number and the only one I have is the one before my case was moved to the NVC stage.

None of the other numbers I have will work. It seems odd that they say on the phone you can track it online but then you cannot if you don't have a receipt number. I am within the 90days so I have to assume it's normal but the fact I have no way to track it is a little odd, perhaps it is normal.

I don't know why but I find this stuff so irritating.. The automated bot will not let you speak to an agent yet I have a question that the bot cannot answer. I must be missing something.

I would be hugely grateful of any help... Almost there.

Did you get an email confirmation when USCIS Immigrant Fee was paid? https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-fees/uscis-immigrant-fee/uscis-immigrant-fee-payment-guide

Receive confirmation of your payment.

  • Once your payment is complete, you will be directed to the “Confirmation” page. We encourage you to print a copy of this page for your records.
  • From here, you can pay for additional immigrants, return to the USCIS homepage, or exit your browser.
  • You will receive a payment confirmation from ELISdonotreply@uscis.dhs.gov with the subject “Pay.gov Payment Confirmation: Immigrant Visa.”
  • The email will include your receipt number beginning with the letters IOE. We encourage you to save this email for your records.

When you receive the Green Card, the new IOE number should be on the back side:

Well it's now been 91 days and still no green card or SS.

I cannot seem to be able to speak with anyone at USCIS, the automated system will not let me speak with an agent. I am calling the live assistance number and I am unsure how to fill in the E request. Has anyone found a way to speak to someone or knows how to fill in the form?

The SS card issue: I keep getting told to wait and wait to the point that I was laughed at when I said that I was told I would hear from them in a few days back in early DEC and still nothing. I have called 5 times so far and apparently a manager needs to call me but then I never get a call.

It's all feeling rather impossible to get things in place.

Any help would be greatly appricated.

Matt
