Purpose of I-485 NOA letter?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if there is any use for the I-485 NOA letter while waiting for greencard to be approved?

I have received my I-765 NOA in the mail but not I-485.

I sent it last June, and I have been bugging USCIS to send me a new one since then, and they have not offered any alternative for me that works.

They asked me to mail lockboxsupport, which in the span of 6 months never responded once to my emails, the USCIS online tool for Nondelivery of Notice is not working for me AND recently it has been almost impossible to talk or chat with an actual customer service agent! (it has been soo FRUSTRATING considering we pay them such EXPENSIVE processing fees!)

I'm now on the verge on giving up trying to get a copy of the I-485 NOA.

But given that I do not have my greencard yet, and might only get it at least 1 year from now, is there any use for the I-485 NOA while waiting for the greencard? Please note that I might get my EAD card sooner.

Should I continue trying to get a copy of my I-485 Notice? Will it be needed for anything while I am waiting for my greencard, even though I may already have my EAD?

Thank you to anyone who would like to share any advice.

The NOA1 for the I-485 is proof that you have authorized stay status in the US after expiration of your I-94.  Without legal status, that proof is pretty important, imo.  I would get it, and I would have it with me at all times.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes, you should get it. I think the I-485 NOA1 is also needed when you file for renewal of the EAD so you don't have to pay the fee.

Thanks @JonSeattle and @Lucky Cat! I do welcome if you have any tips on getting USCIS to resend a mail to you. If none, still, thanks a bunch for the reply!
