Travelling without my Permanent Residency Card

I received my card a long time ago, but had to send it back because they put the wrong birthdate on the card. I need to travel to Canada in June and I wonder if not having my card will cause a problem. I do have a photocopy of it and I do have the paperwork telling me that I had to send the card back in order to get a new one. Will that be enough (along with my birth certificate or passport)? Thanks!

You could make an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and get the I-551 stamp in your passport, which will allow you to leave the U.S. and re-enter when your trip is over.

Or if you applied and received AP, you could use your AP documents, as long as they have not expired.

Did you ever get the AOS stamp in your passport? You may want to schedule an INFOPASS appointment with your local district office, go with your approval letter and other paperwork, and get them to stamp your passport. The stamp is an indication of your residency status, and can be used while you are waiting for your card.

Well, I applied for my passport two weeks ago and have not received it yet. I will before June though, so I'll make sure I have it stamped. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Hey Nina -- once you get your green card (resident card) you must use it to enter the US. So going into Canada is not a problem, but returning to the US would be.

You could make an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and get the I-551 stamp in your passport, which will allow you to leave the U.S. and re-enter when your trip is over.

Or if you applied and received AP, you could use your AP documents, as long as they have not expired.

Agree that the OP should get the I-551 stamp.

I don't think OP can still use AP as she is now an LPR.
