Has anyone applied for any government benefits? How to apply for them? What documents do we need in order to apply? Thank you!

You have to go to your state's Social Services website.  It will tell you what you need to apply.

I applied for SNAP and Medicaid with PF.  I was told that I still had to meet qualifications, and PF only removes the residency requirements.  So I only qualified for SNAP benefits.  They denied Medicaid.  Colorado.

Hello all! Happy upcoming Holidays!

@sandranj @Stillwinning!!!😊

I hope you can answer my question, you are always so knowledgeable and helpful!

I am in NYC

My Vawa was approved in August 2020, and my i485 was filed back in 2017 (when I applied for it based on marriage with my abuser husband). Because of the escalation of our conflicts and my mental state, we didn’t attend the interview for that i485 with my husband, as I was already consulting with my attorney about filing of my Vawa case.

The attorney mailed the USCIS request to keep the i485 in abeyance (10 days before the day of the interview that we were supposed to go to with my husband), and he gave me a receipt of that letter being received by USCIS. BUT, the status of my i485 after the day of the interview passed, was changed to “Nobody showed up for in person processing”, and this status is still there showing up to this moment (since 2018)

my question is @sandranj and @Stillwinning!!!😊 should I be worried that maybe the USCIS didn’t keep it in abeyance? Do they send some kind of note, if they cancel i485 or refuse to keep it on hold?

And How can I check the status of it, if it is still active? According to this forum, I should have received something about Updating my Medicals, but I haven’t received anything.

Thank you very much for any input for my question! and stay safe!

Hi dear, there are so many knowledgeable people here.😊 Your VAWA was just approved in August only about four months ago some people wait past 12 months to get an interview so you can relax a little bit while you wait.. may I also suggest you contact your congressperson concerning the status of your I-485.. if you are able to schedule an infopass it would help greatly too. The most important thing is that it hasn't been denied! It's also possible they got the letter asking to hold it in abeyance but as you know USCIS is messy with updates! You attorney can also write to USCIS!👍

Hi everyone, I just want your input on the latest development on my case. So I received the attached notice of interview for the I130 and I485 wish I filed alongside my abusive spouse. Meanwhile I filed my form I360 and a new I485 since 2017. My abusive spouse did not attend the interview with me but I went alone to ask that the interview be held (I didn’t know about I360 at the time) so I was hoping to fix things with my abuser in the hope that we would attend the interview later. But my effort didn’t work. I haven’t received any correspondence about my case since then, although I have been following up with my congressman’s office to investigate the holdup with my case. But now I finally got an interview notice that was not based on my I360. I have also not seen or received any notice about approval on my I360. @Stillwinning!!!😊 and @sandranj please advise. Thanks

Hello this was the same notice I got for my interview after vawa approval. I thought it looked odd as it was different from my initial interview notice that was marriage based..I researched and found out it was not unusual. Your i360 is approved I believe..and this is your interview notice. Please be sure to attend the interview and prepare as you would for the i360. Take all the relevant documents with you. USCIS operates in unusual ways sometimes.💁 Be prepared for anything..you may discover officially that your i360 has been approved!👍

@Stillwinning!!!😊 How do you get the IRS transcript for the last two years if you didn't file the tax return during those periods?

Honestly I don't know about getting transcript for non-filers.. however an IRS verification of non-filing letter VNF will provide proof from the IRS that there is no record of a filed tax for the years you are requesting. It will not provide proof that you were not required to file only that you did not file. So by all means contact IRS!👍
