I feel a little bit confused. When we get the green card from I-485 based on VAWA, do we have to wait for another 3 years to become an American citizen? How will this work? (Spouse was an American and got divorced already)

it works exactly like that, its written in the law.

If you spouse was a citizen, you are eligible to apply for citizenship in after 3 years of VAWA approval based GC

when you change your address by mailing AR-11, there are your physical address and your mailing address. So my mailing was my attorneys office for some time but then I changed it to my own address, so I get the mail, but it didn't actually make them send me mail.

ah... yea so that is normal.

When you change your address with USCIS it means that they will schedule your eventual interview at your local field office.

Now when you apply for a EAD, or VAWA or I485 etc etc, there is a section there that is for your representative/preparer's info. this is where the lawyer's put their address and the mailings go to them. see my point?

Interesting...I am April 2019 and still no news, not even RFE.
I recently moved and my address change didn't seem to work with Vermont, so are you saying that you got C31 without any notice? just found it in mail ?
If that's a case I might even miss that because again I just found out that my address change didn't go through...

Hey... no. I got the notification for C31 and the card was delivered to my lawyer

Got my interview notice today for Houston field office for January. Just when I was hoping for it to take a while due to my issue with past asylum+traveled to home country situation...

December 2017 - applied for I360, I485

August 2019 - GMC RFE, answer submitted around a month later

January 2020 - C31 EAD

February 2020 - I360 approval notice

April 2020 - Courtesy notice from NBC

Summer 2020 - my case is in NYC by mistake

November 2020 - NYC sent the case to Houston. Important note here - it looks like for some offices it doesn't matter what's your receipt date and they will put you in the back of the line regardless, Houston office told me they are "trying to get rid of the old cases first".

December 2020 - Interview notice for January 2021.

Mixed feeling, somewhat happy after a 3 year VAWA wait (plus 1 year marriage wait), but scared in case the officer brings up asylum case. If so - would it be sent to court, I could appeal and stuff? Just trying to make sure it would be a lengthy process before they make a final decision.

well, you are one step closer to freedom... so that is the bright spot.

Are you using a lawyer?

True that! My lawyer passed away a couple of years ago, so not at the moment. I will try to find someone to prep me for the interview.
