I am really concerned about showing my gc to employer as the category printed on card specifically indicates vawa based adjustment and hence discloses our personal situation. I find that too embarrassing and would like to avoid giving my card if possible. Is there an alternative you can suggest to prove immigration status please?

I am reading that we can provide unrestricted SSN to prove work authorization status. Can someone confirm that please?  Also, do I have to update I-9 documentation with my employer. Thank you!

Hi friends, some good news! Sent in another EAD/AP renewal because didn't get a notice for the first one (4 months ago), and just got a receipt for this one. Relieved because now I can use my 180 day extension. But my lawyer says this one will most likely be denied cuz the first one is pending. Asked lawyer many times, but looks likes there's no way to find a receipt number for a pending file.

Also I saw attached fingerprints for the new one, may be that's why didn't receive biometrics notice either for the first one...

Hi @sandranj and all

Good morning, I am a silent member of this thread to keep updating myself with ongoing situation with VAWA. I have been worried these days as I didn't hear anything back from USCIS since my VAWA got approved in April-2020 and they have updated status as "APPROVED" by July-2020. I have following updates for my I-485;

  • On  04/10/2020, Your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, was transferred to another office for processing.
  • On  04/13/2020, We transferred your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to another USCIS office that now has jurisdiction over your case.
  • On  08/17/2020, We sent a request for initial evidence for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.
  • On September 21, 2020, we received your response to our Request for Evidence for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status,

I have received I-360 approval notice from USCIS but till date didn't have received a courtesy letter for I-485. Is courtesy letter required to be received as an indication of USCIS working on my case? Do I know when will they notify me about medical, how much time they will take for scheduling green card interview? based on the I-485 updates I provided above, can you tell me when should I expect to be notified for medical/interview? Thanks a lot 🙏

Your Green Card is your only proof of immigration status.  Employers are required to have that information for the I-9.

@PayingForward

I will add my two cents:

1. An LPR can use a driver's license and unrestricted social security card to prove identity and eligibility to work. Just check the box for "I am a permanent resident" and memorize your A-number. Legally speaking an employer cannot demand any specific document other than one list A document or one list B document + one list C document.

2. Honestly, few people know about category codes and the fact that you can figure out how the person became an LPR by it. Even fewer know what "IB6" stands for and even if they were to figure it out, most have enough tact to just be like "Oh..." and not inquire further.
