Receipt number received finally, what next?

I finally got my receipt number. I am pretty sure the next thing that will happen is the USCIS Vermont office will E-mail me. This E-mail will say weather they approved or if I am missing information. Is there anything I can do while waiting for the the USCIS to contact me? HoW long does it usually take for them to give their response? Any Information would help...Thanks and GOD BLESS!!!!
