Sorry if this question has been already asked else where but what is the reasoning behind obtaining an EAD before SSN can/is provided??

A K3 visa holder is not authorised to work so they do not need a SSN... if they file for and are approved for an EAD then they are authorized to work and need a SSN so they can apply for a SSN once they have an approved EAD or they can wait until they have there greencard and then apply for a SSN....

The SSA does not see the need for a SSN to open a bank account or to get a drivers license, as far as they are concerned a SSN is only needed so that your SS record can be credited with any payment made to it from your employer and also to allow you to pay tax to the IRS...
