Happy to be here. Thanks for all the help so far.

NOA1 - April 28, 2020

NOA2 - December 28, 2020

@Greenbaum May I request for a copy of Canada's (I live in Toronto and am the petitioner but I believe the embassy in Montreal issues the K1) P3? Thanks in advance.

You can't hurry it along at all. You must wait till you see your date on CEAC change to ready two times. The second change you can send in your P3. A copy of the P3 is linked below. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actual one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterward.

Ok. We are not making a little headway. Your file is still at NVC. You must call them to get your case number and invoice number. Once you have that then you can complete the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application but in my opinion that would not be a good move as you may have changes and such before you have your interview. Once your case is sent to the embassy and your record at CEAC shows "ready" then you must follow the instructions in the P3 letter on "what is next" question. CEAC requires "immigrant" as a election and your case number to get your current status.

The consulate in MTL is actually scheduling K1s for the applicants now since they restarted processing again. Nothing has been scheduled for a while but they requested new cases from the NVC in December so things are moving!

Timeline

Generally speaking, does it take as long to get to the actual visa interview point after noa2 than it does to actually get NOA2 from NOA1? I understand that during the pandemic and president switch those factors made it take longer to get to NOA 2 but I'm basically trying to do research on what the estimated wait time would be until we get to the interview, and it's a little bit more confusing than I first thought.

I understand that these guys only operate on their own schedule so there's no way to really know for sure, but even reading the documents Greenbaum posted at the top of this thread is still leaving me confused as to how long I should expect to wait before the interview stage.

Timeline

I found this resource for NVC processing times: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/nvc-timeframes.html

For those of us waiting on confirmation that NVC has received and processed our cases from USCIS, it indicates that they are creating cases RECEIVED (not sent) from USCIS on 12/14. I assume all of our paperwork goes by snail mail.

Once we submit our supporting documents, it looks like it'll be a 3 month wait for them to get on deck for review.

Also, my understanding from this thread so far is that NVC confirms that all our ducks are in a row; NVC only feeds cases when our beneficiary's country's US Embassy indicates they're ready for additional casework.

The embassy will then reach out to schedule an interview in the time approximated here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/wait-times.html

We can't predict the timelines as there are so many factors that influence these measurements. Because USCIS, NVC and the embassy are all clamoring to process their case load under circumstances that we don't see it's impossible for ANYONE to opine with accuracy and predict when something in the process will conclude. Whether the wait is one month or one year, it's still a waiting game. Of course, you can spend $4,000 plus on a lawyer to sue to move your file along (for this to be affective your file should have been approved with a NOA2 issued), but most do not have that kind of cash nor for some find it to be the answer for them. In the end, it's still a awaiting game.

Is the only way to get your case number by mail from the nvc? Is there a way to look online? Thank you!

Go to the first page of this thread and in the first post there is a link to a PDF file that has tips, tricks, and hacks to use during this stage of the process. I authored this to answer most of your questions with reliable information and historical history from others. The information to answer your question is in the PDF.

Okay, fair enough. Also, I just checked the link that someone posted: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas.html

And for the city that my beneficiary is going to be doing the interview in (Nairobi) it says the wait time is going to be 999 calendar days. I know i also says that 999 days is for emergency cases but is that really how long it usually ends up taking? Should I be concerned that it could take up to 2 and a half years for the embassy to request our case?

To answer that question based on what 999 means you need to ask yourself "is my case considered an emergency case"? If your case is an emergency case then it will be processed if it is not then you will wait till the embassy starts adjudicating your visa type. Until such time that happens you will continue to see 999. If the embassy opens and is adjudicating K-1 visas once again then you will see an actual date.

Well, my case isn't an emergency case, but what I'm trying to figure out is whether it's normal for people to wait that long 999 days for their case to be requested, or if it's possible that the embassy could finish emergency cases and switch back to a lower amount of calendar days.
