Kind of off topic question, but still related: I just wanted to clarify something. With a K1 visa, does the fiance get to live in the US (as in stay there once they arrive and the 90 days are up) even after we get married legally in the US? Or do they need to return to their country even after marriage?

Once they enter the US and legally marries you he/she can stay in the US permanently.

Bear in mind there are other procedures to follow once the marriage happens in order for him to stay here legally.

Hope I answered your question :)

Now, during the pandemic this guide is a bit off I think. I completed the DS-160. He went last week to do the fingerprints. I called NVC. The case is still at NVC. NVC is saying that they won't send the case to the Dominican Republic until the embassy asks for the case. I asked them should I move forward and complete the Affidavit of support. They said they didn't know. They told me only the embassy will know what other forms I need to complete. Interview appointments can not be schedule online.

The Dominican Republic is not a travel ban country. They are not allowing interviews for K1. They are saying they aren't processing K1 because of the pandemic. Yet, they are processing tourist visas. (I know first hand...not a rumor.) After completing and paying for the DS-160 and the fingerprints, what are the next steps? Should I complete the Affidavit of Support? If so, where do I send that? Is that paid online?

Thanks.

But they issued 41 fiancé visa in January

Real happy for you. For us, we still can't schedule an interview and there is just straight up uncertainty as far as how long we have to wait until we can schedule it. Oh well, there is a reason for everything :D

Well finally after 3 months, our status changed from “At NVC” and now it shows”Ready” . It took a while to get here though.
now I’ll have to wait for the US embassy in Abu Dhabi to send me an email (P3) and further instructions to book appointment etc.

Hope it moves quicker from here on.
wishing you good luck with your application!

Did your status changed from "at nvc" to "ready" directly? Or it passed through "in transit"?

You are very lucky! 11 months is probably the quickest it takes in 2021 and 2020

Yeah I think it had to do with Taiwan and how they handled COVID. We had the same delays as everyone else at USCIS but with no delays at the embassy we really got lucky.

My fiancee and I received our K-1 Visa approval back in December and then in February received our case# and invoice# from NVC - however, I was told over the phone that the Amsterdam embassy wasn't accepting K-1 Visa cases currently and that my case would sit at NVC until Amsterdam opened back up the processing of visas. I've been checking regularly and our case is still sitting at NVC.

Is there any action I need to take on my end that I may be missing? My fiancee is fortunately with me in the US on her ESTA currently but she will be going back to the Netherlands next month and I see that the interview wait time is around 80 days. NVC told me that once Amsterdam begins processing visas again they will request the case from NVC - does this sound right?

Thank you! @Greenbaum

I spoke too soon.. just received an email from NVC saying that my case is now in transit to Amsterdam!  We received our NOA2 in early December so it definitely took a while to get things moving but we are excited :)

Hey there Zman! Our process has been the same; same months for the approval and case # received, and I was just here to say that our application was deemed "Ready" on Friday! I am excited to hear of an appointment date!
