"LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (AP) -- A 13-year-old girl whose feet were severed in an accident on an amusement park ride is in stable condition in a Nashville, Tennessee, hospital, her family said in a written statement Tuesday."

They have one of those Superman rides in California - surprised they didn't mention that in the article.

The BBC ran this series a few years ago '999' - showed a lot of accident reconstructions and how the emergency services were able to rescue them. Some of those freak accidents were pretty gut churning - one guy got dragged along a dock when ropes cast off a speeding boat crashing caught his legs. The guy got wrapped around a lamp-post with his legs folded backwards on themselves with his feet behind his head.

Sh1tty equipment, not properly stress and wear tested. Very sad for the girl, but she is due many millions...

Were they able to surgically re-attach?

It'll be interesting to see what unfolds - whether any journalists investigates Six Flags maintainance routines. My hunch is that if that ride was routinely inspected by a qualified inspector, he would have seen stress signs in the cable and the accident would have been completely preventable.

Even if they do she's not going to walk properly again.

I hear you, but it is already done. Prevention of future accidents and huge retribution are in order here.

Oh my God!!

We plan to come over and have fun next weeks and Gary convince me to try all the rides there but I'm having a cold feet now and too scared to go. :(

I would never go on any of their risky rides. There were a few incidents here at the Six Flags in Mass one of which where a guy totally fell off the top of a rollercoaster and died. I don't trust them one bit.

My husband never understood why I hesitate so much in going to these amusement parks, and when I do go I manage to get onto 2 or 3 rides before freezing and not going in any others, and that's the reason, I'm not scared of the rides, speed, height, etc. I am scared of the rides malfunctioning, worried that they don't inspect the rides often enough etc. My fear is of dying due to malfunction, which is pretty stupid when you put yourself to risk in order to have fun.

That ride used to be called the Hellavator, i remember riding it a few times, and i swear i always thought something bad was going to happen. I just dont think anything you sit on, go up, and then back down as fast as possible with an immediate break at the bottom is safe, it scared the poo outta me when i was on it.
