https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/huge-catastrophe-democrats-grapple-congressional-state-election-losses-n1248529

WASHINGTON — Heading into the election, Democrats dreamed it would go something like "Star Wars," with rebel forces blowing up the Death Star and celebrating in the streets as a blue wave swept them into power in Washington and state capitals.

But President-elect Joe Biden's victory ended up looking more like the horror movie "Alien," with the last bedraggled survivor kicking the monster out of the airlock and then drifting off to an uncertain fate in deep, dark space. And wherever they ended up, there would probably be another alien.

Yes, Biden soundly defeated President Donald Trump — and there was even some partying in the streets — but the results were brutal down the ballot in ways that could haunt Democrats for years.

The party fumbled key Senate races, lost ground in the House and failed to capture state legislatures in a redistricting year despite having the political winds at its back, more money in its bank account and a hyper-activated grassroots movement that had spent four years preparing for this moment.

If this wasn't the year for Democrats to win big, then when?

"It's really hard for our party psychology to learn any lessons when we keep winning" the presidential election, Democratic strategist Danny Barefoot said. "But someone needs to have the hard conversation of saying: It's not enough."

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The Democrats were really betting big and hoping for something like this to happen here in NC, and it failed. I mean they did pick up two house seats that got redrawn last year to make them predominantly Democrat. But other than that they lost seats in the General Assembly, lost the Lt. Governor race, lost the Senate race, and even lost the Secretary of Agriculture race. What was weird is that they they choose a very good looking woman whose whole campaign was "Bringing NC into the 21st century" and Weed legalization. It was so awful that many Democrats that voted straight ticket blue actually voted for the Republican in that race.

While locally the Democrats choose someone to run against the State Majority Whip and her whole campaign was making him out to be "sexist, xenophobic, out of touch, and that he campaigns for corporate pac money". They are both the same age as me (mid-30's) so alot of her attacks didn't stick to him. I mean espeically the part where "he accepts corporate PAC money" when she takes that special interest lobbying money and think's it is ok because "it's not a corporate PAC". I actually called her out on it in a local FB political page and she actually answered me back. So we had a discussion and I asked her "why she is accepting so much out of state money from the likes of Steve Schmidt formerly of Google?". She said that it was ok because they are private individuals giving her money. Also I saw alot of "unemployed" people giving her thousands of dollars which we talked about previously on here

EDIT: Oh I forgot that we will more than likely get a new Congressional seat next year so another map redraw. I can really see the GA actually drawing one of those new Democrat districts to make it more Republican.

A number of these races are not over as well, so, some of these seats can still flip back to Democrats, and others can even flip to Republicans.

The big take is the same left that said Trump is a racist, minorities are going to fall in line with Democrats in 16 said the same stuff in 20, clearly these people have little understanding of minorities beyond their perceived usefulness as political puppets to do the left's bidding.

That social bubble they put themselves in clearly has them overestimating the support and control they believe they have from/over others.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

Not sure,  but 11 incumbent presidents in history have been defeated in a general election.

If you're not as sleepy as I am right now, maybe do a quick scope to see whose party got the House & Senate.  Probably no ready way to tell how the governorship races came out.  Truly would be interesting to know.

I’ll say again, 2022 midterms have some very favorable senate races for the dems. Five of those traditional blue state seats that went red for Trump in 2016 will be up for grabs. 21 GOP senators up for reelection vs 11 Dems.

Republicans will need to do well in the house in 2022 to keep things balanced.

Because the vast majority of them don't get outside of their respective social circles. That is why they think the word LatinX is a PC word to use to refer to Hispanics. You are starting to see this in the Philippines as well with the usage of FilipinX to refer to Filipinos instead of the gender specific names.

I'm not sure why people thought the Democrats were going to take some of the senate seats they were projected to take anyway. This was always projected to be a neutral year for senate races. The 2022 advantage will be significant for the Democrats and they do need to win a few seats, because the 2024 advantage will favor the Republicans similarly. The Republicans are set up to take the house and senate again in 2024 if things go badly for the Democrats in the interim.

Picking up a number of house seats was the most significant thing to happen for the Republicans in 2020. They can build on that in 2022. If they can forget about 2020. IMO, the biggest issue the Republicans will face is the same one that cost the Democrats. Focusing too much on denial of the previous election instead of on what to do to win the next one. I would like to see both parties get back to accepting that losing means it's time to make yourself better, not try to make the other side look worse.

That might have been the case.  I always thought the AZ Senate race was loaded with sexist double standards, but it is what it is.

Analysts going forward have to be careful differentiating who rode Biden's coat tails and who was just jumping off of Trump's. Georgia might go blue more often in the future, but it's hard to see Arizona staying blue.

i think its more purple than blue, its gonna swing back and forth depending on the race.

i dont think Mcsally is all that well liked and thats why she lost both senate races.
