Hi everyone,

I wasn’t too sure where to post this so I did it in the general K1 visa forum for now until it’s moved to a more appropriate location. This question is regarding the K1 visa process at the Brazilian embassy.

That aside, I was wondering if it would be cheaper to have my fiancé get her vaccinations here in Brazil or wait until we return to the US to get her vaccinations when we apply for the adjustment of status?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Cost aside, it is so much less hassle to get it done abroad when it comes time for AOS.  Money well spent

YMMV

Hello Brandon!

Since I am a Brazilian and went through the K1 process, I hope I can be of some assistance for you guys.

I decided to get my vaccinations in Brazil, first because down there, you may get most of them for free and secondly because I just wanted to get this part out of the way and only have the AOS forms and the biometrics/interview done in the US.

Most of my vaccinations were up to date and, therefore, I just needed two of them: influenza and mumps shot. I ended up getting the yellow fever one, but this was because I thought it would be great in case I decided to go to Australia from here. And just a reminder, the yellow fever shot is not required as part of the vaccination process for a K1 Visa holder.

So, in my opinion it was not only budget wise, but it also ended up leaving me with less things to worry about since the AOS phase consumes time and energy because you need to forward multiple forms to the USCIS anyway.

Best of luck in your process!

Awesome, thanks so much for your helpful response! Did you get your vaccinations done in your city or at the consulate?

They would never  be done at the consulate.   Possibly be done at the medical appointment

YMMV

Getting vaccines from the US embassy approved medical center may be more expensive than using your local health provider.

Can you not get vaccines done locally in a health center that isn’t approved by the US embassy?

?

"your local health provider" = local doctor or center that you can go to.  In Brazil.

I gotcha now. My interpretation was that immigration would not accept her vaccinations if they were done outside an approved medical center in Brazil. I assumed that because a medical exam has to be done at an approved facility then so would her vaccines too. I stand corrected

If that were even remotely true then any vaccine received as an infant would be invalid

YMMV

That’s very true hahahaha the problem for me is that this process is so confusing so trying to connect the dots to get this visa is the most important part.

I got my vaccinations in my city.

Tell your fiancée to communicate with what we call “Postos de saúde.” Right now, because of this pandemic, they may be limiting the number of visits.

So, if she can’t find all the required vaccines all in one place, tell her to contact other “postos de saúde”.

Sometimes they run out of certain vaccines for some time because they do the massive vaccination campaigns.

I was really lucky to find the two ones I needed in the same “posto”.

Glad to help.

You can get vaccines at Posto de Saúde. Just remember to get the stamp and the receipt so you can prove the date that you got them. Vaccines are free in Brazil at Posto de Saúde.
