my husband just submitted the DS 260 he added to the addresses portion his stay in Canada that was 3 months.  when i went to upload civic documents a request for the Canada PC was listed in the required docs area.  Its my understanding this isn't required for stays less than one year. We were married there is that the reason this populated?

You are required to supply a police report from any county you lived in for more than 6 months. If he was there more than 6 months, one is more than likely required.

This is incorrect.  For the IR1/CR1 process if you are not a citizen or living in a country currently, you need a police certificate only if you lived there 12 or more months.

OH so if i understand correctly every country will populate but you only have to supply the ones that you resided in for more than 6.  He was 3 months so can I leave it empty?

You can put in a piece of paper that states length of stay and put police certificate not required.  Sometimes the online portal won't allow you to continue without something in place of the item they're requesting, even if in error.

yes, this is correct.  I called NVC to be sure and they said you can handle one of two ways include a statement or mark as not having the document and write in the comment note -stated on ds260 I did not live in the country more than 6 months or lived in country a cumulative of ___timeframe and therefore not required to supply the police certificate.  thats what i did and seems to be accepted so far

Also FYI, if you can't get one right now due to covid, you can select document not available and note that in the comment.

The wait is going to be so long that you'll need to get a new one anyway, but they will tell you to upload it once you have it and are required to bring it to the interview.
