Hello,

I have some concerns over the documentation needed to support a Bonafide Marriage. I am living in the US and my Spouse is living in Japan. The plan was for her to work in Japan and save money before moving to the USA and beginning our lives living together. We are looking to start the Spousal Visa process and are concerned about showing proof of our Bonafide Marriage. A lot of the items are for things such as joint ownership, leases, etc. Which are only possible if living together. Also, I have read that preparing a letter explaining why we are not living together is needed, is this correct? If so, do I need to provide this in my packet? Or is this more of when the interview is conducted?

I am curious to know what other people who may have been in our shoes prepared for evidence during the Visa process. Your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it helps, I have added her name as a beneficiary to my savings such as Roth IRA and Life/Voluntary life insurance. Which I think would showcase our financial commingling?

Thank you!

Couples living in separate countries will not have a lot of joint property, joint bank accounts, etc.  The very best evidence you can provide is that of time spent together and continued communication.  You do not need some letter explaining why you aren't living together...

Take a look through the forums, your situation isn't unique.

You can also see what other people did.

I had NOTHING joint and got approved no problem.

You just need to show a story that results in convincing evidence of a bonafide marriage.
