Oath after interview @ NYC field office?

Hi all -- 

Does anyone know why the NYC office doesn't seem to do oaths immediately after the interview (if you're approved, of course)?
I m curious because it seems like such a more efficient move that there has to be a reason ... Thanks!

How is conducting hundreds or thousands of individual oaths more efficient than one oath administered to many people?

Only certain officials can administer the oath of citizenship.  Therefore, en-mass ceremonies is more efficient, imo.

in the year of Covid? They don't have ceremonies for hundreds of individuals at once ... (and as far as the covid-appropriateness of large gatherings, I am not going to insult your intelligence)

How is it more efficient (your words) to conduct individual oaths?  I am well aware that USCIS offices have changed procedures due to the virus.

Don’t know about NYC. 
but know Atlanta and Kansas City don’t do it as they are always done by the courts. The courts are actually SO excited to do them as it’s mostly always negative things they sit with and therefore they get really excited about oaths because all the people are so happy.

NYC has soooo many people. I've had the * pleasure* of going to multiple offices in NY, NYC, And upstate and the difference is huge. There's always a long line outside of Javits...when I went to the office upstate, it was like a ghost town, I thought I was in the wrong place... The administrative lift of preparing the ceremony individually for that many people would be a nightmare. Just one of many reasons I'm sure.

If I am not mistaken, even when they do same day oath ceremonies it isn't just for one individual. It still is for a group of people. Obviously it won't be for hundreds of people at a time but for maybe all the people from that morning or that afternoon (or a chunk of them). Many people have reported that after their interviews they were asked if they wanted to have their oath and when they said yes had to wait anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. I guess it depends on what time was their interview. But once oath time came it was never just them. They usually were in groups of 10 or 15 or more. Obviously due to covid and the size of the room it would not be possible to have more.

Individual oaths would never be more efficient and not everyone can give the oath.
