Not really sure he followed the letter of his proclamations.  Didn’t Newsom recommend keeping a mask on between bites of eating?  His apology was one for the books though, I think they are labeling it the best non-adulterous apology on record.  It really boils down to the elite leaders saying do what I say, not what I do.  Trump gets a ton of flack for his leadership during this pandemic, but he is much less hypocritical then governors like Newsom, Cuomo, and Whitmer.

It was never made part of COVID19 protocols. He said it, and I think there was a collective facepalm from everyone.

I pay closer attention to what our county health board commissioner says -- she is clear about what is happening in the county, what rules are in effect, and what rules may be coming into effect. There is an excellent dashboard online that's easy to understand, and I get daily push notifications from the Citizen app about new cases, deaths, hospitalizations and rates of transmission. I use all of this info to help me decide what is safe to do, and what's not, for our family.

  • At least seven California assemblymembers and one state senator are said to be among the 75 people attending an Independent Voter Project conference in Maui this week
  • The LA Times identified them as Frank Bigelow, Andreas Borgeas, Wendy Carrillo, Jordan Cunningham, Heath Flora, Chad Mayes, Jose Medina and Blanca Rubio
  • The conference is being held at the Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel in Wailea, where rooms cost $500 per night
  • The legislators have faced backlash for attending despite health officials' warnings against out-of-state travel amid an alarming spike in coronavirus cases in the Golden State
  • Several attendees defended themselves by arguing that the conference was important because it includes discussions about pandemic policies
  • It comes as Governor Gavin Newsom continues to weather sharp criticism for attending a birthday dinner with at least 10 people at a Michelin star restaurant in Napa Valley

Yes, I mentioned that above. Disgusting.

That's the thing he didn't even follow the letter of that law that he put out. They were all sitting down unmasked in a closed room eating. All the while he is getting ready to make restaurants hard af to stay open. It's more Rules for thee but not for me type of thing that many politicians on both sides do.

Technically, the sliding door when open made it in compliance at the start of the meal. I don't make the rules, but apparently it complied when the door was open. I did not hear about them closing the door until yesterday evening. HE KNOWS BETTER. I am furious about this. I am not alone.

I thought that even if outside, you are expected to maintain social distancing?  The chairs at that table did not appear to be 2 meters apart.  As to the conference, they can easily have these discussions virtually, there is no need for face-to-face meetings in Hawai'i.

Yeah, I read the test has to be within 72 hrs of arrival.  I often wonder about that time lag.  Still seems a little irresponsible.

Probably a compromise. Tourism is a big part of their economy. I'm surprised it took them this long to come up with something workable. I think this started in October.

Even quarantine in Hawaii would be fine with me. There are some nice all inclusive hotels on right on the beach. I guess since I lived there, I don't really need to do the sight seeing part. I would just go for the beach. I am not up for risking the plane ride to get there ATM though.

John and Ken had a couple good segments on this very thing yesterday, and aired a interview from the person that took the pictures. That woman said that her and several people complained because that party kept louder (drunker) and louder (drunker) that it caused a serious disruption to the rest of the restaurant. So the employees had to close the door, and they could still be heard even after closing the door.

So only outside dining is allowed in Cali right now?

Yes, outdoors only. As of tomorrow, capacity on the patios is reduced to 50%, at least in LA county.

The chairs do not need to be 6 feet/2m apart; just the tables. You can sit next to someone. And there was ZERO need for that conference to be anything but virtual. I would love to go on someone's tab to Hawaii. Not happening for me, not happening for other people.

I had heard that they are really serious about the quarantine period, and one must stay in their room.  I could be wrong, but I do remember some folks getting into trouble for breaking quarantine in Hawai'i.

Not anymore.

Kidding aside, I thought there were restrictions regarding sitting with others not from the same household and being that close without a mask.

Technically, yes. But I refuse to believe the groups of six clustered around tables in front of the Cheesecake Factory this past weekend that I saw are all one household tables. No one is actually enforcing that rule in practice, hence why we probably shouldn't be doing it at all.

I think it is probably or mostly unenforceable.

its why i dont think even if someone wanted to try and ask people nicely to not gather like that or to stay home, its not gonna happen.

heck i am one of the people that is pro mask and distancing etc, but the going stir crazy is a real thing, and the sad thing is, if everyone was on the same page earlier in the year, i dont think we would have gotten to this point. sure it may have still be surging now, but maybe a bit less pronounced. especially during the holidays.

i dont think its too much to ask for people to just try and stay distant from each other and mask up when they go out, but i dont really think hardcore lockdowns are the answer at this point either.

We live in Southern California. Socializing outside is rarely a problem here. When I want to eat or have a glass of wine with friends, we go to a park or to someone's front or back yard, or rooftop terrace, and sit at an appropriate distance. Parks are free, bring your food. Not hard.

Socializing outside in the sun may very well be beneficial.  Many of the areas being hit the hardest are the areas heading inside for the Winter.  Of course there is still the issue with private parties, etc. where people tend to get a bit inebriated which tends to lead to them being a bit louder and more in your face.
