Mark Zuckerberg admits Facebook uses secret tool to track users across internet

 

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly admitted that a tool is used to keep track of user behaviour online during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday. Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley confronted Zuckerberg where he questioned him about two internal tools, brought to his attention by a Facebook whistleblower. The tools called Tasks and Centra are used to coordinate censorship with Twitter and Google and monitor Facebook user activity across the internet, respectively.

After the questioning of the hearing titled, Breaking the News: Censorship, Suppression, and the 2020 Election on Facebook and Twitter's content moderation practices, Hawley on Twitter wrote, "Zuckerberg admits @Facebook DOES have 'tools' to track its users across the internet, across platforms, across accounts - all without user knowledge. I ask how many times this tool has been used domestically against Americans. Zuck won't say." He then attached a screenshot of the internal tool.

Zuckerberg, however, did not confirm "whether Facebook ever uses Centra to track and monitor American citizens." Hawley further noted, "Mark Zuckerberg under oath to me today: I don't know, I can't recall, I don't remember, I'll follow up later, let me get back to you."

zuckerberg doesnt actually care about the country. he is human scum.

he is hated by the left and the right and for the same reasons.

i barely use facebook anymore, and mainly to keep in contact with friends all over the place and to post music.

 

i dont think anyone would be upset to see him or facebook destroyed.

It is not just Mark Z., Jack D. and the head of Google can be added to that list.  I wonder if this tracking extends to all those home speakers people have fallen for?

i am not sure, but i wouldnt be surprised. I only have a tablet with alexa and its disabled. i wish there was a way to delete google assistant from my phone though. its annoying as hell when i am listening to music and that POS pops up.

i dont use twitter because its useless garbage.

I deleted my FB account a year or so ago.  I never used it for anything political, but I finally took the plunge and axed it.  I never used Twitter, or IG, and we talked about getting one of those home speakers, but I reminded my wife about how the KGB would love to have access to listening devices in everyone's home.  Needless to say, that was a short talk.

Yes, this is one of the reasons I ditched FB, and switched to DDG for a search engine.

  I think everyone knows they are doing it. It's just knowing the extent to which they do it, and having them actually say it the record. Hopefully one more step to everyone realizing these sites were never about social media or information. They are about making tools to make data mining easier.

You also have to be careful how they're tracking you, not just from cookies (and look at the specifics of each cookie), but image placeholders, and if you're using a phone, you're largely oblivious to the regularly used battery status fingerprint tracker, audio fingerprint tracker, motion/orientation tracker.. there's no alert that this stuff is being accessed. Beyond the fact that some of these trackers and even scripts (trackers, ads, etc.) can transmit malware/provide access to a device. These are a huge reason why I (unapologetically) use script and ad blockers and try to minimize use of mobile devices for browsing. It barely scratches the surface of how much we're tracked, and that's not counting the ways we opt into it (e.g. smart phones, smart home devices with speakers/cameras). IoT and big data have surged astronomically this past decade and consumer protection/privacy laws haven't caught up. Plenty of law making representatives or executive agencies that are supposed to be looking out for our privacy yet are too busy being useless.

Antifa thinks they're safe in the "mask up" era, too bad they don't realize that American companies work in tandem with the Chinese government for stunningly accurate facial recognition algorithms (with masks and other facial covering), and this is slowly transferring between those American companies and US government. You have the way, and from the looks of the two major parties (albeit far more Democrats), looks like the will is "progressing" as well. Who's up for social credit?
