Hi everyone,

I hope I have posted this in the correct topic. So after reading up on here I can see a lot of people seem to be having some issues getting their SSN. I received my employment authorization/ advanced parole on Monday so I called the SSA office today and they took my name and birthdate and said they didn't have anything pending to get my SSN, but that that doesn't necessarily mean it's not being processed, it just means it's not being processed by their office yet?

It's obviously a bit concerning, because I did apply for my SSN with my immigration paperwork, but I've also seen someone report they also did that and didn't received anything. I have a potential job lined up and it's frustrating after waiting 7 months for my employment authorization to have yet another delay. Immigration right?! 🙄 Does anyone know what I should do next? I'm mainly worried about there being nothing pending, in which case I want to be able to apply asap but not sure how when they aren''t doing appointment.

She also asked if they had given me a number to call which I thought was strange because what other place could I contact besides the actual SSA office? I know if I call USCIS they'll tell me to just call SSA

Thanks everyone!

I had the same problem. applied for SSN with immigration paperwork. Never got anything ...
Applied direcly with my work permit, but SSN had been declined because "no in person appointment possible until you get a job" ...
for me it was crazy ... I needed a SSN to have a background check , just a nightmare
I had to call many times for weeks to have an appointment scheduled because of my professional situation. They finally gave me an appointment after 3 months

That's so frustrating! I'm sorry you had so many issues with it! After all we go through with the immigration you'd hope at least this part would go smoothly.

I have actually been offered a job now starting on the 30th November. They haven't asked about SSN yet, but I know they'll need it when I start so I can get paid etc. Do you suggest I call and try and get an appointment so that I can get my SSN? It's so difficult because it should be being processed, but since a lot of people never received theirs I don't want to wait a long time for something that will never come!

My wife received her EAD on 11/4. Been waiting *patiently* for the SSN card but nothing. So I finally called local SSA office today and the agent said there's nothing pending. He told me to contact USCIS directly. I did, and I could not get to a live agent whatsoever. So I called local SSA office again and this time the agent got my wife's information and would pass it on to a supervisor. Supervisor will call my wife in about 7 days to set up an appointment with her so that she can apply for SSN in person.

So I guess USCIS did send the application over to SSA. My wife just received her SS card yesterday!
