How and when do I pay the $220 USCIS fee?

Hi everyone,

First of all, I apologise if this information is somewhere within the forum that I have missed.

I had my CR-1 interview today at the London embassy and got my verbal approval (woohoo!) But I only realised after I left that they didn't mention fees, or hand me anything at all, besides the hand out about immigrant rights and a sticker with my waiting number on my immigrant letter.

I checked my emails from the lawyer and then followed the link to this website: https://my.uscis.gov/uscis-immigrant-fee/ where it states:

"At the time of your interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate, the DOS interviewing officer should have given you a USCIS Immigrant Fee handout. This document provides instructions on how to pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee and includes your A-Number and DOS Case ID in the top right corner, as shown below. Make a copy of your USCIS Immigrant Fee handout or write down your A-Number and DOS Case ID and store it in a safe place. If you did not receive an immigrant data summary or a USCIS Immigrant Fee handout with your visa packet, contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate that issued your visa to request a copy."

Yet, I didn't receive anything like this and I cannot find the A-number or DOS Case ID anywhere. Is there anywhere online I can find this info or should I contact the embassy? (And in which case, how?) I am anxious to receive my passport and visa ASAP since I have flights booked and don't want this to delay the process at all.

Many thanks in advance!

Ahhh I just managed to find the following answer by LuckyCat in another part of the forum:

"In my opinion, it is best to pay fee after receiving the visa and before entering the US.   However, the fee can be paid either before or after entering the US.  Please be aware that the actual Green Card will not be produced and sent to the new immigrant until the fee is paid.

EDIT:  The "A" number will be on the visa itself....it is also known as "Registration number"

So I am guessing the payment website is just a touch out of date and I should wait until I get my actual visa to find this!

Pay the fee here after you have your visa status changes to issued....or is in hand.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
