Hello there

Just wondered if anyone can reccommend a good state to live in. My husband and I are planning to move once we get my green card. We currently live in Albany New York. We find the taxes too high and cost of living and homes getting more expensive I think we could do better elsewhere. I miss being close to the ocean so somewhere within 1 hour of the sea would be great. I love the look of New England been to Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire but visiting is one thing living there is different. Any suggestions would be great. My husband currently works for the state im not sure if he can transfer to another state job somwehre else or would have to start again does anyone know??

thanks

Your husband would not be able to transfer from a NY state job to another state job. Only Federal jobs would be a possibility.

You could stay in NY and move to Buffalo, where I live. Housing is dirt cheap. While there is no ocean, we have Lake Erie, which is pretty nice!

Good luck in your decision and do LOTS of research!

You could move to Maryland or Virginia.

Nice states with nice weather. Not too hot and not too cold.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You do have beef on weck...

And The Anchor Grill.

Excellent points, Dev!! Plus, we have the best chicken wings ever!!! None of these so-called "Buffalo" wings!

And the commutes are easy, you can get anywhere in 20 minutes!

But it does smell very industrial in Buffalo...

My dad's family is from there, I have many fond Buffalo memories.

New England is very expensive. I would look at North Carolina, South Carolina, Southern Virginia. The cost of living are decent and they are close to the ocean too.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Take a look at some of the western states like Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona or Nevada.

Whatever you do, DON'T move to California! It's very expensive to live there, way too much traffic, smog, etc. And earthquakes! And fires! And floods! Oh my! And don't let me get started on the people; it ain't called "the land of fruits and nuts" for nothing.

On the other hand, it is a beautiful place to visit. You'd probably love to vacation there.
