What do you get "with" the CR-1 visa?

I'm having trouble finding online what you actually get when you get the CR-1 visa. The green card? Work permit? Social security card? Or just a single-entey visa and that's it?

I'm confused if I'll need to do adjustment of status still once we get to the USA and if there is a time limit in which we need to file for PR.

Also, bonus of anyone is in WI can can tell me about their experience with getting a driver's license!

TIA!

A CR visa is permission to enter the US. It does not grant you any residency nor work authorization. When you use the visa to enter through customs, the officer will stamp your passport (I-551) which will act as temporary evidence of you being a permanent resident of the US until you get the physical green card. That I-551 stamp will also give your authorization to work.

SSI is a separate doing that you must do.

No. Upon entry to the US you are a LPR. Since you married in 2017 you would be IR-1 which means you don't have to do Removal of Conditions later.

At entry, CBP will endorse the IR-1. Thus, it'll serve as I-551 document for 1 year: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/temporary-i-551-stamps-and-mrivs "The employee’s foreign passport with the MRIV is evidence the employee has permanent residence status for 1 year from the date of admission."

Immigrant_Visa_CBP_endorsement.jpg

With that you can work and travel internationally. Did you already pay USCIS Immigrant Fee? It's paid after they issue IR-1 visa. This fee is for Green Card production: https://my.uscis.gov/uscis-immigrant-fee/ USCIS should issue you 10-year Green Card.

About SSN: What did you select on DS-260? If you selected "yes" for SSN issuance: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/Handout_11_1.html "You should receive your Social Security card within 3 weeks after you arrive." If you can't resolve it over the phone, fax, and/or physical mail, you'll need an appointment to go in-person: "If you believe you qualify for an in-person appointment, call your local office. You can look up the phone number for your local office by accessing our office locator. Please note that appointments may not be immediately available, depending on local health and safety conditions and staffing." https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/

You get a visa.  You will have 6 months to use the visa.  When you enter the USA on that visa, the visa will be canceled and yet endorsed.  The endorsement converts the canceled visa to an I-551.  An I-551 is proof of lawful permanent residence (LPR) status in the US.  This I-551 acts as a green card and is good for a year.  You will be able to work as soon as you get an SSN.

If you paid the fee, a green card will show up in mail later, usually weeks to months later.

You be able to use the i-551 in your passport to get a state drivers license and job.

There is no adjustment of status. If on the day you enter the US you were married less than 2 years to the petitioner, you will have to file an I-751 before the two year anniversary of entering the US.  You file this no sooner than 90 days prior to the 2 year anniversary of your arrival.

If you fail to file the I-751 you will lose your LPR status.

If you check the box on the ds260 form for USCIS to do the Social Security number for you,  you do nothing till ROC

the 2 year green card will come for CR1 (married  less than 2 years) and then you will apply to remove conditions to get 10 year green card

if USCIS does the SS number the card will come in the mail,

if you do it all you actually need at SS office is the visa and 2 proofs you live in the US address you are claiming

(CR1 stamp says immigration says you are married)

An example of working without SSN after entering with Immigrant Visa:

https://www.twc.texas.gov/news/efte/employees_without_ssns.html "It is certainly legal to hire someone who is authorized to work in this country, but who does not have a social security number"

It’s a single entry visa. The visa is canceled.  Like all single entry visas.

Once you enter the US and are admitted for entry, it is converted to an I-551.   You are then an LPR and no longer will use a visa to enter the USA. Instead you will use the I-551 in your passport (an I-551 that to the casual viewer looks like a visa but isn’t).

You get the following:

1. The visa. Nominally it's valid for 6 months. Upon entry it'll be endorsed and serve as evidence of permanent residency for 1 year and can be used for any purpose like a green card (getting hired, getting a driver's license, getting a social security number, international travel, etc)

2. Your green card will be ordered to be produced once you pay the "immigrant fee" with USCIS and enter US. This takes a few weeks. Social security card will similarly be ordered when you enter but it's free.

3. You will be an LPR as soon as you get through customs. You do not and should not file for AOS.

Contradictions without citations only make you look dumb.

for driving license, apply for learner's permit test, after u pass that u can apply for driving test

for documents that you needed to bring to DMV, log on wisconsin DMV for more details

mostly you will need : passport, document that shows you are legal in US ( i551, greencard, etc ), 1 proof of address ( for standard state ID) or 2 proofs of address ( real ID)
