REHOBOTH BEACH, Del./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Joe Biden solidified his victory over President Donald Trump on Friday after the state of Georgia went his way, leaving Trump little hope of reversing the outcome through legal challenges and recounts.

Edison Research, which made the call, also projected that North Carolina, the only other battleground state with an outstanding vote count, would go to Trump, finalizing the electoral vote tally at 306 for Biden to 232 for Trump.

The numbers gave Biden, a Democrat, a resounding defeat over Trump in the Electoral College, equal to the 306 votes Trump, a Republican, won to defeat Hillary Clinton, a 2016 victory that Trump called a “landslide.”

While Trump had yet to concede, Biden officials reiterated they were moving ahead with transition efforts regardless.

 

Although the national popular vote does not determine the election outcome, Biden was ahead by more than 5.3 million votes, or 3.4 percentage points. His share of the popular vote, at 50.8%, was slightly higher than Ronald Reagan’s share of the vote in 1980 when he defeated Jimmy Carter.

btw, did they manage to catch anyone who voted illegally back in 2016? millions of them? I wonder why some would take his accusation now seriously (even when the case were brought to the courts, they failed to prove the wide scale fraud that cost him the election).

   Tying this in with the other electoral college topic, I don't think as many elections have been actual landslides as people like to think there are. Certainly winning a small number of states by a small margin of voters doesn't do it. Neither 2016 or 2020 was close to being one. Not that it matters really, but even with a significant margin in the presidential race, don't bring up landslide unless you take the senate, house and popular vote by significant numbers as well.

 

  It's serves more good for a president to realize they barely squeaked out a win (and act accordingly) than to live in delusion and think they have a mandate to do anything they want.

true, no senate majority, hard to push for anything without having to compromise - and then the confirmation hearings too

it means bernie cant be Labor and Warren cant be Treasury, although i would be not wanting Warren in the cabinet anyways because thats a guaranteed seat lost in the Senate

Warren in MA? when would her term ends? (have not checked) but can a special election be held instead?

i think she just got re elected in 2018? i am not sure what MA special election laws are, will have to look it up
