Should we also get rid of equal representation for each state in the Senate.

The senate and house basically work as intended as far as the process of electing representatives. I would argue they are no longer functionally working as intended, but that is a different debate. The argument between popular vote vs state representation over the electoral college is actually settled in the house and senate elections. The house is essentially set up to be representative of population, and the senate is set up to give each state an equal voice.

It looks to me like the Republicans have a a slight inherent advantage in the senate, as rural states tend to go Republican in recent times, but the Democrats have a similar (slight) advantage in the house since it will tend to be more reflective of the popular vote. The states and the people are both represented in theory.

i go back and forth as to the EC, some days i think keep it, other days i think it should be tossed in the trash. i see both points represented, which i feel as though i am in a vast minority since people have seemed to stake out their positions and wont budge.

i dont really see a way to compromise on it and i absolutely abhor the idea of minority rule, but i do think they should have some representation.

it doesnt look like it is going anywhere, at least not in our lifetimes, so as imperfect as it is, its what we have to live with

The electoral college is there to ensure the votes of people all throughout the Republic mean something rather than in specific highly populated cities alone. Those who wish to blow up the system never make any argument beyond the same "majority should dictate everything", the Constitution was crafted the way it was to prevent national majorities from dictating everything. Clearly its wisdom is beyond some people.

I will take the Electoral College over the popular vote any day warts and all.  Additionally, the President was never met to be a representative of the people, that is the job of the House.  Regardless, the states have their own power here and as we recently saw in CO, the entire movement for the popular vote is gaining a little steam.

Seriously, who is the president supposed to represent?

While there is argument for and against the EC, Biden won both the electoral college and popular vote. Eliminating the EC would not stop the tantrum coming from the WH currently. It would seem that many states are figuring out the best way forward on the subject.

Keeping the current electoral process only gets more stupid if the interstate compact passes. If so many states want to legislate an end run around the process, just address the problems directly.

Why would Congress ever want to address a problem directly? Pfft! Silly you! That's just not how things work! ^_^

Interestingly they have looked at how the split electoral vote would have changed elections from 2000-2016. This model still gives more weight to congressional districts, but also gives some weight to the popular vote. The biggest change far and away would have been to give Romney the presidency in 2012. It also would have prevented the court battle in 2000 as GWB would have won the election outright without needing to wait for the outcome of a Florida recount. As much attention as this got in 2016, Trump would still have won 292-246 if all states split the votes the way Maine and Nebraska do.

I would like to see this happen, but I don't actually think we will see a change until/unless something completely outrageous and catastrophic results with the current process.

that being said, the upcoming meltdown for the next few years until he croaks or gets thrown in the slammer is going to be LEGEN-

wait for it.....
