Do I need to be present for my fiance's interview?

Hi all,

I am looking to change jobs, which means I likely won't be able to get time off for my fiance's interview, assuming our embassy will open in Jan. Is that a problem?

There is nothing that is formal that requires the petitioner to be at the beneficiary's interview. So, you have nothing to worry about if you are unable to be there as it is not a requirement. Some countries will allow it, and many do not.

To add on to the topic, does it help if the petitioner is there? Or doesn't really make a difference?

It certainly doesn't hurt.  A lot of people believe it does really help.

YMMV

Are they aware we are there? Like can they see us when they interview?

Depends on the consulate.   For those consulates that restrict access, often times the beneficiary will take the USCs passport to the window to show that they are outside

YMMV

I don't believe it makes a difference in Moscow (I wasn't there for Anastasia's, and she didn't have any problems related to that; the same goes for most of the other Russian K-1 beneficiaries she knows).

Do they usually allow the petitioner to be at the interview at the Manila Embassy?  Hopefully my wife and stepdaughter will be interviewed at the same appointment, and I was hoping to be on the sidelines with my 2 U.S. citizen kids.

When we got my stepdaughter a tourist visa, they let us all in, including my 2 U.S. citizen kids, who were about 1 and 3 then.

So the embassy may be opening in January or is that just when your fiance has the appointment scheduled? Good luck.

That was what I was guessing/hoping. I'm not so hopeful about Jan anymore.....

When the petitions are at NVC, just request they be joined together,  this will assist in getting interviews scheduled on the same day

YMMV
