AOS Interview scheduled at old address

I applied for AOS in December 2019. I moved to Dallas from Charlotte in March 2020 and I did the whole change of address, got the confirmation via mail and also confirmed it with an agent. Even the question on I-130 - the beneficiary will apply for adjustment of status in which state - I selected Dallas, Texas.

 

2 weeks ago I got a letter saying that my AOS interview was scheduled and it was scheduled in Charlotte. I have been trying to reach the agents since then and no luck. I've opened two Service Requests to talk to Tier 2 agents, one was closed saying that I was unreachable but I didnt get any call. The second one, I was told that I should expect a call in 48 hours but has been 3 days and no call. And Tier 1 agents are useless. Adding to that reaching to a human via the phone or chat has been next to impossible. 

 

I dont know what else to do. I don't mind going to another state but do they have jurisdiction or not is something I don't know. I've seen some lawyers post on AVVO that they can adjudicate the case if they wish to. But I see some people saying here on the forum that they dont.

 

Any suggestion/ideas or similar experiences? TIA

have the interview in Charlotte. you moving residence does not concern USCIS to transfer your case.

if you don't show up, they will consider you abandoning the case and close with refusal for AOS.

 

I've heard people from Portland who moved to Florida and flew back to Portland for their interview.

 

I recommend getting those flight tickets and just be done with it. The way scheduling works with COVID re-openings, I would not try to miss this one...feel lucky you had one scheduled!

Question because this is a slight concern of mine too, but how is OP meant to get the letter of the dates for the interview if she isn't able to access the mail from the old address because maybe someone else has moved in and they got rid of the letter.

I did the whole change of address process. So the interview letter came to my new address but the interview field office was at the old address. I don’t know why that happens but it’s a fairly common experience with people who change their addresses.

I read in some other sites that people were turned away from the field office and in one case they were contacted 2 days before the interview that their file is to be moved since it was scheduled at a wrong location. 
 

in the end the tier 2 officer told me that it all depends on the officer. They don’t have jurisdiction over my case but they can interview me if they wish to. 
 

I honestly couldn’t bring myself to spend so much money just to take a chance. With the whole covid situation I’d rather save. So after a lot of deliberation we decided to reschedule and make the request to move our case to Texas.

 

another member suggested that we could made an expedite request since this was USCIS error. I plan to do that. Since it’s free anyway 🙂

I moved from NY > CA in October and changed my address. Finally got interview notice, but it's in NYC. I have an infant, and already was terrified to fly across the country the first time when we moved during COVID. There's no way I can make that trip again with my husband and daughter. I just submitted a request to reschedule based on my new address, but worried that I'm getting bumped to the end of the line. It's been 18 months since we submitted so just very anxious to get it all done. 

 

Would love to hear what happened with you!

Here's my timeline :

11/05/2020 - Called USCIS and requested to talk to Tier 2 officer - opened an Service Request 

11/06/2020 - Received an email that the request was closed as they couldn't contact me - but they didn't

11/09/2020 - Opened another SR to talk to a Tier 2 officer

11/16/2020 - Tier 2 officer called and said that we need to interview at our home state, but I could take a chance and go to North Carolina.  So I requested to reschedule interview at Dallas, TX.

11/16/2020 - Received an email with a Referral ID and that my request was submitted to NBC

11/17/2020 - Received an email - my request to reschedule interview has been forwarded to a scheduling department

11/17/2020 - Received an email with my Case status: Testing and Interview and now it has the status - 'Request to reschedule my appointment was received'

12/31/2020 - Received an email and an status saying 'We cancelled your interview'

12/31/2020 - I-485 updated to ‘Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview’

01/12/2021 - Interview was scheduled (received an email as well)

 

So in comparison to all other fellow Dallas filers who had their interviews scheduled, I feel that my scheduling of interview was delayed by a month. It isn't a very long wait. I'm sure that I wasn't bumped to the end of the line. It probably took them that long to move my file to Texas with holidays and what not. Hope that was helpful.

Thank you! I appreciate your input. I just called in and asked for a reschedule. Couldn't get a Tier 2 officer, but hopefully it's sufficient. I have a confirmation number for the request. Not sure how this could've happened -- we changed our address 3 months prior to getting the interview. Alas, hopefully the delay won't be too terrible.

I changed my address in January 2020  . Got all the address confirmation mails etc to the new address and yet here I am.

This is a very common issue I feel. I've also read in this forum that a couple of people have gone ahead and did their interview at their old address with no issues. I just didn't want to risk being sent away. Such a waste of flight tickets etc

 

Did you mention that your interview location was wrong and they need to reschedule it in the right city?

It took me multiple calls and finally a talk with the Tier 2 officer before they were able to understand and process my request accordingly. Hopefully the agent you talked to was smarter.

Another update- our interview was scheduled in the old state for the second time

 

We got notified today that the interview was scheduled again for the third time. 
 

I have no faith that it’s going to be at the right state this time too, since they scheduled it like within 10 days of my requesting to reschedule at the right state.

I just got scheduled in the wrong state for the second time myself, so obviously beyond frustrated. I called USCIS this morning and am supposed to get a call back in the next 14 days from a tier 2 officer. @PP31 were you able to get scheduled in the right place? What worked?

So our interview scheduled in the wrong state thrice. The tier 2 officers didn’t help either. So I opened a request with a member of congress from my jurisdiction. They reached out to USCIS. I had to email all the evidences of address changes and the People working at the congressman’s office followed up with dallas field office and NBC too to make sure my file was redirected to the right office. They said that I’ll be contacted by the local field office for the interview and asked me to ignore my scheduled interview at the wrong state. 

 

Almost a month after I opened that request with the congressman, a local field officer contacted me directly and asked us to come for an interview the next day.

I don’t think the officers know how to process the rescheduling at the right address once an interview is scheduled at the wrong state. 
 

I talked to many officers and the outcome was my request was always processed as a regular reschedule of the interview. The wrong state part was always ignored I don’t know why

Thanks for the quick reply! I live in Sacramento, so hopefully being in the state capitol will help. Have you had your interview?
