Has anyone had elevated blood pressure or a more rapid heart rate?  These have apparently been reported in millions.

I can attest to the fact this is going on with my husband after his second dose. He is miserably sick in bed with the side effects. Random spikes of tachycardia and high blood pressure come and go within a few hours of receiving it. I'm keeping him off work tomorrow... I hope the rapid heart rate resolves.

He seems better today. Fever spiked to ridiculous levels last night but is normal this morning. He has strange stabbing joint pain and headaches, tachycardia is not as frequent. He doesn't actually have a primary care, he refuses to see one. I will probably just have to make the appointment for him for my doctor.

Joint pain and headaches are both fairly common symptoms. I've gone through 2 bottles of Advil at work since December because people keep asking for it. It's usually the type of join pain that moves around, but if someone has an existing issue like arthritis or an old injury, it might stay in that area for a while. It should go away, but if it is getting worse or if it's severe, it's probably prudent to get it checked.

I messaged my doctor that I had a couple of old joint injuries that started acting up and were painful and stiff for a couple of weeks after the second shot. He messaged back "me too". He said I should come in if they get worse or persist. Guess I have to pay for real advice, but they did go away.

I had expected typical flu like symptoms, but did not anticipate the heart issue for him. A normal healthy person shouldn't be having tachycardia while at rest.

I love the advice doctors each other "me too" he could have said "get over it, suck it up princess" and had the same bedside manner. I guess you get what you pay for.

Tachycardia is something they watch for in case of an anaphylactic response. It's why they make people sit for 15 minutes (or 30 minutes if history of allergic reaction). I think the documentation says a delayed response can occur for up to 24 hours, but most people do get it right away if they are going to get it.

One of the good reasons to have a regular physician is you can ask questions. I message my doc a lot now, and while he usually says "don't worry", or "we can follow up next time I come in", there have been a couple of times when he said I should make an appointment as soon as possible. If you don't have that or a health line you can call, it would be safer to make the appointment and make sure everything is OK. Tachycardia is not something to mess with.

I understand he can't say too much by message or he won't be making any money. I like that they at least can tell you if it's an issue that needs to be looked at or not. My current doctor is pretty good about responding and saying what needs to be done.

My old doctor used to make us come in for prescription renewals if it had been more than six months. That was annoying. They have already diagnosed the issue and prescribed the treatment. I don't want free advice, but I also don't want to come in and pay just to say - hi, nothing has changed.

COVID19_HIGHROAD_BANNER.jpg

April 9, 2021

Dear Dr. ,

COVID-19
Florida-specific information about dentists administering the COVID-19 vaccine was released this week. As you may recall, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued new guidance on March 12, 2021, to expand the pool of qualified professionals who can serve as vaccinators which included dentists, dental students and retired or inactive dentists who held an active license within the past five years.

Those who are interested must be established as a COVID-19 vaccine enrolled provider. Additional information can be found at PHE.gov; some of the requirements include:

  • Documentation of completion of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Vaccine Training Modules.
  • Documentation of an observation period by a currently practicing health care professional experienced in administering intramuscular injections.
  • Current certificate in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

To become a COVID-19 vaccine provider, your practice or organization must be enrolled in the Florida State Health Online Tracking System (Florida SHOTS) and the Vaccines for Children/Adults Program (VFC/VFA). The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has developed a flyer with enrollment instructions. For questions or additional information, contact the COVID-19 Vaccine Enrollment Desk at 833.701.1397 or email CovidVaccineProgram@flhealth.gov.

As more is learned about COVID-19, the CDC updates its guidance. Recent research shows the risk of getting a COVID-19 infection from contaminated surfaces is extremely low — 1 in 10,000. According to the CDC, exposure to respiratory droplets carrying infectious virus is the principal mode by which people are infected.

Looks like I'm just going to pass on giving vaccinations.

Good for you.

Watch for palpitations (rapid heartbeat that you're aware of) and elevated blood pressure.

If this doesn't go away a week or two after your second shot, consider seeing a doctor.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The mass vaccination sites aren't really actively checking people for if they feel unwell. At least nothing beyond, "hey you good?" they aren't checking heart rates or BP before letting anyone go because they don't have time. It relies on the person to know if they feel unwell or not. Husband later told me his chest felt heavy while waiting but thought he was just having anxiety so he didn't say anything. His problem is still persisting and I couldn't get an appointment until next week, so I've been checking him every day. I finally got my own vaccine appointment coming up for Pfizer as well. I have had a history of high BP and heart rate issues for which I take medication for... hope that it will not make things worse.
