1.  No side effects here from Moderna #2.  Nursing staff highly impressed to meet such a highly developed upper primate.

2.  Does Canada/do other countries still insist on a negative test + quarantine if someone has gotten both vaccinations?  If so, both the official response would seem counterintuitive and the trouble taken to get both shots would seem worthless.

I don't think they know yet whether a vaccinated person can still transmit the virus.  I heard of a study with the AZ vaccine that said they were reducing transmissions, but I have not heard of anything regarding Moderna or Pfizer.

One dose of AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine reduces transmission, symptoms

A single shot of the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine reduced transmission of the coronavirus by 67% and provided substantial protection against COVID-19 for at least three months, according to preliminary data from three trials unveiled Tuesday.

After several years of dealing with both, I would say US CBP is generally more difficult to deal with, and certainly more attitude in general, but I've seen people end up on the wrong side of both. Safe to say if you go out of your way to test them and you get the wrong person, I don't think it matters which side you are dealing with, you'll lose!

What each side is under pressure to look for is different. Going north they only ask me about Firearms and Tobacco. Coming south they were obsessed with the fact that my wife's Nissan was not registered to her.

The professionalism at the BC land borders is night and day. Either side has it's grumps, but on the whole the CBSA folks are better trained, more courteous and don't seen frustrated that they didn't land a real law enforcement job.

I was going to add something similar. The Canadian side is often worried about the tax and duties you haven't paid on some minor item, or if you have left a fruit or vegetable in your backpack that might contaminate the entire Canadian ecosystem. The US side is looking for drugs and laundered money and people who might over stay. Definitely the Canadian side acts more professional most of the time, but they have their moments too.

I have also found that CBSA is also very interested in if one will be working while in CA.

Reminds me of an incident a Prowler car club friend from Texas told me.  He (a cop) and his wife and their 12 or 14 yr old son were headed to Canada.  Got to the boarder and were asked the usual questions, including if they had guns with them.  He said yes and they were immediately directed to a side parking area where three or four Canadian officers met them.  He explained he was a cop and that he and his wife both had handguns.  His wife's, he explained, was under the seat of the car.  An officer asked if it was loaded and they both turned around and asked the son if it was loaded as he was the last one to use it.

The officers looked at each other and one said "see, it's true what they say about Americans from Texas"

I usually have a joke for every situation, but I am always serious with these guys, unless they initiate it. The last time I tried to be funny, I had my backpack and luggage dumped out on the side of the road during a search and had to pick it all up myself afterwards. It was during the G8 summit in Calgary and they were checking everyone at the border and I realized after the fact that going through peoples stuff all day long was not something the officer wanted to do either, and probably didn't leave him in the mood for wise cracks. At least he said have a nice day after though.

I am curious how it turned out. Part of it is perception too. Some of the crossings, the secondary areas are fairly open and you can see everything. Even without knowing what happened, it's not that hard to understand why many of the people ended up there.

I still say people shouldn't go out of their way to antagonize them though. The best scenario is always to get through as quickly and painlessly as possible, and I tend to work towards that.

Happy to report that my beloved Mr U and I have tested negative after I was exposed at work. I don't go into work too frequently, but I did and met with a co-worker who has since tested positive. Negative PCR tests but we have to ride out another 9 days of isolation. Fun times. You might see me around more frequently. I might also post a lot of pictures of my cat, in consequence.

Fourteen hours after groan-a-virus shot #2, I began feeling quite lousy (achy, feverish feeling).

Contacted doc, who said that the first 12 to 36 hours are typically the worst after #2.

"At least it's fairly brief!" she added.

I'd really like to know (from all, and Maven in particular) whether the Fully Inoculated can avoid any of the harsh blanket rules of (e.g.) mandatory quarantine upon entering a different state or country, especially if a filled-out vaccination card were presented.

The goal is to have a digital travel pass linked to vaccination status. They are not looking at using the paper card at this time, as it is extremely easy to make a fraudulent copy. I believe the airline industry has recently asked the WHO to release guidance allowing travel with proof of vaccination status and the WHO is currently collecting data to determine the risk of spreading the virus after vaccination. They are not ready to make that recommendation yet.

Bottom line is the intent is to (eventually) allow travel without quarantine after vaccination, but we are not there yet.

Good information.  However, the quote above indicates a possible eventual "master governmental database," the formation of which may well lead to mass collection of other health data or on-site "Your papers, Comrade" challenges.

As much data as they do collect on us for this, I don't think they actually got any information they didn't already have on most people, except our vaccine status.
