I just returned from visiting family on the west coast.  On the flight from Denver to Ft. Myers, our "California based" flight crew was making their usual announcements.

One was asking us to replace our masks between bites of food and sips of drinks.

The other was the safety talk blah, blah, blah, and if the oxygen masks drop down, remove you protective mask, place the oxygen mask over your nose and mouth, and COVER THAT WITH YOUR PROTECTIVE MASK.  They were serious.

I knew immediately they actually were a California based flight crew.

I naturally assumed  the extension " up to" included ones arm length, caveat emptor  and all of that.

A good friend of mine from college and his 10 year old tested positive yesterday. His wife did not. Looks good for his son -- no symptoms-- but my friend isn't feeling great. His breathing is labored and he's exhausted and feverish. He's 36 years old and has type I diabetes. Really hoping for the best for him. They're up in New Hampshire and cases are exploding. The state House speaker died from it yesterday.

My wife's mother in Russia has the virus.  She is 74 and diabetic and is not doing well.  Terrible cough and trouble breathing.  She called emergency and wanted to go to the hospital but they told her she was too old to be admitted.  They sent someone to give her antibiotics!

Our owner has it. He is 82. He is in ICU at a top Atlanta hospital.  They just put him on a vent and are having problems with clotting.

Just got married last month and bought a new jet.

Very talented business man, community leader and heck of a good guy. Been kind of sad about it today

Oh NB.... so sorry. :( They will do all they can for him I'm sure. If there is one thing I've discovered in all of this, is that your survival rate even at it's bleakest moments can dramatically improve depending on how advanced the hospital is and how creative the team is willing to get to fight for the patient. Sometimes it's not enough, but sometimes there's hope.

One of the most severely afflicted patients to come out of the WH, was Crede Bailey, head of security. We often think that when COVID lands someone in the ICU their chances are slim. It's often more complicated than that, but the journey can end up being full of more and more challenges and severe disability if you survive. What happened to Mr. Bailey is not unlike what happened to some of my family and friends. The fact that a ranking WH employee that probably has better insurance than many, still needs financial assistance as a result of the cost of his care, is a testament to the ways this disease takes a toll..

I don't really get this choice by the developers. Seems like they should have been able to foresee the possibility of cross reactivity when they chose to use the HIV protein as a component of the vaccine. Given the ramifications of that, they might have considered a better alternative.
