One of the guys I usually go to lunch with is head of the local on/off base Tesla car club. I have taken a couple rides in his Tesla roadster and d a m n that is a nice ride. If I could get the money for that then I would definitely buy it.

Buddy of mine has a Tesla 3.  Last year we went to Miami with our wives in it for a night out.  Not enough range so we had to stop at the Indian reservation in the middle of the Everglades to charge.

Was not that impressed. Going over I sat in the front and it was Ok except for the stiff choppy ride.  Returning I was in the back and it was so uncomfortable.  Not enough room for feet and seat position is really poor.

Has anyone used this a Covid tracking app?  I am wondering if this flies in the face of HIPPA laws as even though the app does not disclose the identity of the person that has tested positive, there are many instances where that can be easily deduced depending on the situation.

Turns out people are weakest link for smartphone apps tracking COVID-19

The service, built by Google and Apple and adapted by individual countries, states or territories, either appears as a downloadable app or as a setting, depending on the state and the device. It uses Bluetooth to identify other phones using the app within about 6 feet for more than 15 minutes. If a user tests positive for COVID-19, they’re given a verification code to input so that each contact can be notified they were potentially exposed. The person’s identity is shielded, as are those of the people notified.

I have to agree, the Tesla's (S, X, 3) do not really impress me very much.  The ones I have seen up close had some pretty poor fit and finish issues, the front end of the 3 is as ugly as the Pontiac Aztek, and for any long trips (>2,000 miles), an EV would add several hours to the trip.  EVs in general have a place, but not everyone lives in a house with a garage with separate 220 service where they can charge at home, and the misconception of EVs being zero emissions gets to me.

Completely agree. I was looking at those and at first glance they look good but if you look closer it isn't so good

no, it doesnt.

there is no identifying information as you stated.

even if it did, i would hope the app designers would be smart enough to have a HIPPA disclosure form built in when you sign up.

So if I walk into the Speedway at 4am and the app goes off with only the clerk in the store, I think the identity of the person would be pretty obvious.  So the app itself may not violate HIPPA directly, but indirectly could be an issue.

perhaps, but its not giving away any medical history or personal information which is what HIPPA is really supposed to protect. i agree this is sort of a gray area and it needs to be addressed though. i am not sure whether any sort of challenge would be something that the courts would be able to address if it came down to it.

i do think that someone should try to challenge it so we can get an answer though.

personally i would never use one of these apps. not a fan of anything tracking me unless i tell it to, like maps when i want directions. google assistant irritates me enough as it is.

I don't see widespread use either if it is voluntary. Many of the entities behind this are already known for engaging in tracking and data mining to a level that there is not really a lot of trust for disclosing private health information.

IIRC, HIPAA applies if health care entities are involved in the release of private information. I think there will be a lot of loopholes with 3rd party apps and especially manual and/or voluntary entry of information.

Probably the reason it is not being widely used by folks.  I know I won't download it.

My daughter and I are going to Portland OR this Friday for 4 days to visit my son.  There is an ADVISORY to quarantine for 14 days.

As I understand it this is JUST an advisory and really not enforceable.

Guess you know what we will be doing... or not.
