Alex was just notified of a possible exposure at work last week. We need to get tested asap and we are in different networks. Now I wish we'd just moved onto one insurance in the past month. My clinic is here in Santa Monica but he's with Kaiser so... he has to go to a Kaiser facility.

Wish us luck. We have both been a little under the weather since last week, nothing big and probably just a cold. I was supposed to get an antibodies test last week but cancelled, got caught up during something else. :(

Well, it was entire day of toing and froing. It's a big hassle with being in two networks, I'm in a PPO and am one of the very rare people who really like their insurance. He's in an HMO because they told him when he moved over it would feel most like the NHS, you don't need to think about what doctor to go to, blah blah. It was fine when he was in SF because there was a big Kaiser Permanente office barely a mile and a half from his apartment, and he could walk there. Here, the one nearest our home doesn't do COVID testing, so we had to drive across the city to do that, then back home to do mine. He got the full test, so he has to wait 24-72 hours.

After his was done, we came back and I was able to walk to my clinic. I got a rapid result COVID test and a strep test, since I had a few symptoms of strep. I do not have COVID or strep. :) I have a ... cold. But it's better to be safe than sorry, and I have some issues with my throat/lymph nodes. Lungs clear, no fever, everything looks fine. We have to wait until probably Friday to hear for him, but I think it will be okay. I still had to go to the supermarket afterwards and I'm about to start making pumpkin pie.

Quite a scare, and I'm exhausted from all the driving we did. Okay, I did. Thanks for the well wishes, and fingers crossed he is going to be okay too.

Yes, and I believe there have been genetic studies linking many of the indigenous peoples here to peoples from Central and Western Siberia.

Told people this would happen months ago.. the first amendment and constitution prevails again, people targeting religious institutions and freedoms over the virus lose.. again:

Quote

Supreme Court blocks NY from enforcing Covid limits on churches

The court said the restrictions violate religious freedom and are not neutral because they “single out houses of worship."

Quote

The U.S. Supreme Court issued an injunction late Wednesday blocking New York’s governor from enforcing 10- and 25-person occupancy limits on religious institutions, granting a request from the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Agudath Israel.

The state had told the court there was no need to act because the restrictions, which were adopted as a way to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, had recently been dialed back.

The court apparently divided 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan dissenting.

In an unsigned majority opinion, the court said the restrictions would violate religious freedom and are not neutral because they “single out houses of worship for especially harsh treatment.”

While they changed the rule at the last minute then tried to argue in court that it was moot, injunctions like this would basically help set the tone for future cases that will inevitably come before the courts in the coming weeks/months as those in power again try and see how far they can go in using said power to target specific people for harm.

Province scares the bejeezus out of people making phones squeal during commute for an emergency alert for a provincial declaration made days ago..

These sort of alerts pushed to phones like that are supposed to be reserved for amber alerts, tornado warnings, etc.. actual, immediate emergencies.

And speaking of this latest shutdown, by far the biggest region in Calgary where their cases are spiking is in the Northeast.. prominently, immigrant communities where people don't feel compelled to follow the dumb rules most of us stupidly follow, and you can see how its rewarded. They're sending grade 7-12 children back to distance education, thankfully at least P/K to 6 is still on campus. I'd be raging if they put my daughter through another pointless school shutdown.

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You live in America TBone. Do you even need to ask that question?  Trump and his rich asymptomatic buddies got a monoclonal antibody treatment for Covid that isn't even available to anyone else.

For the rest of us regular people, yeah, I think there actually are plans in place for (as you put it) who gets to be more equal when resources or capacity run out.
