Aren't we at week 49/50 ?  Looks like November is incomplete.

This is the latest data from the CDC as of this morning.  In general, the data lags the actual date by several weeks which shows up in the last three or four data point which is why I go back to the data every 5-10 weeks and update the graph.  It is clear the pandemic has caused excess deaths as compared to the average of the pre-pandemic years.  I am only graphing the total of all deaths and not breaking out the pneumonia, flu and Covid deaths as we know the reporting requirements for those are not very clear.  What the raw data does not address is the number of people that are dying due to things like suicide, or other medical conditions that may have been treatable if caught earlier.

If I look at your data, there are few  deaths the last two weeks. Maybe your graph should exclude partially reported weeks.

Where is the data that shows 2020 is higher than previous years?

Suicide rates declined again in 2020, but not for all groups, CDC report shows

Preliminary data reveals increases in the number of suicides among young adults, as well as some people of color.

I put all the data in and update it periodically.  Those numbers will go up eventually.

It's just the nature of the beast.  Deaths are not fully accounted for for weeks/months after they occur.

"His graph" is actually the CDC graph.  Not his fault, and if one is familiar with the data, the dropoff has been consistent for over two years now.

which implies that while the data is definitely the CDC's, the graph is Dashinka's. Why give the CDC credit for both? We should give it where it's due.

Thank you, Dashinka, for making it in the first place.

De Blasio Unveils Latest Plan To Get More People To Move To Florida

NEW YORK, NY—Beloved New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced his latest plan to boost the economy and population of Florida by getting everyone to leave his city and move there.

"Let's face it—winter is coming and Omicron is here, and we also have too many people in this city, so we have to empty it out," said the Mayor in a video posted to Facebook.

"That is why I am announcing a citywide vaccine mandate. With your help, we can help launch the economies of states like Florida and Texas into the stratosphere!"

New Yorkers all responded with a string of vile obscenities as they packed their U-Hauls and left the state forever.

I haven't really wanted to talk about this, but we could do with some well wishes and prayers too if you're the praying type. (We aren't, but I also believe in the power of people who do.)

My mother-in-law has been quite ill with COVID. She says she is getting better but honestly, it feels very stalled, like one and a half steps forward and then a step back. Yes, she was fully vaccinated and yes, this is a breakthrough case. No one thinks she is going to hospital but it's been nearly a week since she got her first positive result on a lateral flow test; the diagnosis was confirmed over the weekend. Her live-in long-term boyfriend did not catch COVID, and he's taking care of her, but he needs to keep his distance as well. I don't really want to get into too many more details but that's the general gist of things.

Guys, this is really, really hard. We are so far away, and we can't do anything more but love her. Her GP is optimistic it's just a matter of rest and pain relief and she seems in quite good spirits in spite of it all. I know it will all be fine, she's otherwise healthy and not very old (56) but the virus seemed to hit her in such a way that she resonated in the dissonant chord of severe illness where others might not. It's all so random -- her sister, my husband's aunt, also got COVID at the same time but in another part of the country and she's had barely a snuffle or a cough, just feeling a bit off. She's also fully vaxxed, as is her partner who also caught it -- and is also just fine.

Please hold our family in your hearts. We know all will be well eventually but it's still a difficult time for us, especially my husband. I don't want to be a sap and say "good vibez only" but you know... good vibez only right now? ❤️

Thoughts and prayers to your family.  It is interesting how this thing works with different people regardless of vaccination status.  One of the guys I listen to on the radio came down with it as well.  In his case he was also fully vaxed, but it still hit him fairly hard, thankfully not to the point of hospitalization, and he has since recovered.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. No other person ever in my life like my mom. I am not a real spiritual, praying kind either but I said one for you and your mom.

Thank you to you both. I am one of the lucky people who genuinely likes her mother-in-law. I feel like the universe owed me one after my first MIL, who generally called me by a name that wasn't mine, but was the name of the woman she wished her son had married instead!
