Hi all, first of all I hope this is in the right topic, I wasn't sure where to post this at. I finally received my advanced parole and employment authorisation card today after a long 7 months of waiting! From what I've read, it seems as though my social security card should arrive in about 2 weeks, is this correct? I'm 99% sure I filled in the paperwork for it when I applied for everything. Do I have to wait for my SSN to be able to apply for jobs, I know they need it for the I-9, but would I be able to provide it later and be hired in the meantime?

My last question in, since there is still a travel ban because of covid for countries from Europe to the US, will I be able to enter the US with my advanced parole if I was to travel aboard? I am hoping to visit my family in the UK in December, but I want to be sure I will be able to come back in with that document.

Thanks!

It is reported it can take months for SSN at this time of pandemic, 2 weeks is not practical at this time.

you will need SSN and EAD to be able to work in the states

you can always trying to find a job now, certain job wont asked your SSN until they want to hire you, but some job will asked from the beginning ( it depend)

but in the end, u will need both

at this time, no travel ban to enter USA, but never know in the future, it keep changing during the pandemic, and yes you can enter USA with AP

The SSN field can be left blank since you don't have one yet. An example of working without SSN:

That is incorrect: https://www.twc.texas.gov/news/efte/employees_without_ssns.html "It is certainly legal to hire someone who is authorized to work in this country, but who does not have a social security number"

The travel ban is still in place but spouses of USC are exempt.

I know many people can enter USA right now with valid B1/B2 visa ( saw on traveling group) so I don’t understand about the ban that u mentioned

Since OP is asking about traveling to UK and back, I assume @Letspaintcookies is referring to UK and Ireland proclamation. That proclamation is still in effect until ended by a President. OP is exempt to that proclamation.

We actually received my husband's SSN the day after we received the approval notice, and prior to receiving his physical EAD card.  It can take a while, it can also be issued quickly - there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Thank you everyone for your help! I will await the SSN, hopefully it arrives soon. In the meantime I am still applying for jobs and just hoping I get it soon.

It's also good to know I can definitely travel. Thanks again everyone for your help!

Thank you for asking about return on the AP card from UK/Ireland. Answers here say its possible.  That aligns with the actual presidential proclamation

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-coronavirus-2/

section 2, (a)  (ii) says an alien spouse of a lawful permanent resident is not covered by the suspension.

first met late 2016, met 13 more times since. Filed i-129 Apr 14th. NOA2 dated Oct 11th.
