Hello

I went through consular filing. Do I get a work permit when I come to the US separately from the green card? 

What are the documents you are awaiting in the mail when you go through consular filing?

When I can I apply for a job.

You will get green card and social security card via mails once you are admitted to the US. No separate work permit.

So no EAD then? Just wait for GC to apply.

No apply at all, green card is all you need to live and work in the US.

If you have a job already lined up, I suggest you don't wait for your SSN to arrive, I would go down to the SSA as soon as you can after arrival to get that worked out.  When you arrive in the US with an immigration visa, that endorsed visa will function as the GC.
