I have to kinda agree with this one. Once you allow everyone in who can afford to apply, it will double if not triple processing times. Say there was usually 1 million applicants a year, now it jumps to 3 million applicants overnight basically, even with the increase in revenue this will generate, it will take years to get enough staff to process all the new applications, hence increased processing times. This is for the people doing it legally mind you, since sanctuary cities now have nothing to fear ( Think whole state of California) . The number of illegal entries should also double or triple, but who knows, it's a wait and see thing now.

If what youre saying is true, then theoretically the reverse should speed things up (less people immigrating to US). USCIS hasn't laid anyone off and the amount of petitions they are receiving has decreased significantly in the past couple of years. Not just because of covid but even before it. Anyways, I personally haven't seen any increase in the rate of petition processing because of the decrease in immigration.

I like to think that USCIS is just mismanaged and they are overcomplicating things. It's a necessity for immigrants and they are therefore at the mercy of whatever USCIS decides is best.

In Canada, processing times almost never exceed 1 year when sponsoring an immediate family member. If it does, visit visas are generally issued to the relative. I understand canada is a much lower population but their immigration has skyrocketed recently and they are able to keep pace. For example, the express skilled worker entry allows someone to immigrate within 3 weeks if im not mistaken.

Immigration processing needs to scale better with the amount of applicants. There is no shortage of money. USCIS and other immigration agencies have been slacking (just my opinion)

Fear mongering. Trump with all his supposed 'tightening' of immigration didn't speed the process up. One of the slowest and inefficient in modern history.

Biden to the rescue to make America great again after trump messed it up.

It’s funny all of you say things will go slower with Biden. MORE THAN THEY ALREADY ARE? Thanks to Trump taking away funding from USCIS I had to wait for my damn biometrics appointment for 5 months and the only reason why I got an appointment is because I had to expedite it with a Tier 2 officer. All of you naturalized folks shouldn’t even have a say in this if you’re not even experiencing current wait times

I heard it from some guy named Joe Biden.

Biden said if he’s elected, within 100 days he’s going to direct Congress to craft a legislative pathway to citizenship for more than 11 million undocumented people living in the U.S.

Biden has released two immigration policies, in which the first portion would undo all the Trump administration policies, such as family separations, and end detention centers for children. The second part would work to provide a path for citizenship.

When did Trump take away funding?

USCIS funding comes primarily from fees we charge applicants or petitioners requesting immigration or naturalization benefits. These fee collections fund the cost of fairly and efficiently adjudicating immigration benefit requests. Fees we collect from individuals and entities filing immigration benefit requests are deposited into the Immigration Examinations Fee Account (IEFA). The IEFA was created by Congress in 1988, establishing the authority to recover the full cost of immigration benefit processing. This account comprises approximately 97 percent of USCIS' total FY 2021 spending authority.

As far as us having a say, yes, we are finished with the process. But during the process, we have done a lot of research and also learned from those on this site who went through the process before us.

A refresher in the TOS may be in order.  Those already naturalized may not be personally experiencing the current wait times, but it does not mean we are not aware of them.  Times vary all the time and is mainly a function of the amount of applications in the system.  There is due diligence that needs to be taken with each and every application, and some of those take quite a bit of time especially at the consulate stage depending on how cooperative the other governments are with their records.   So unless the presumed President Elect is going to write an EO telling the DOS staff to rubber stamp all visa applications, or direct USCIS to approve all applications upon receipt, not much will change, and if he were to do that, lawsuits would be filed immediately.

Where were you this whole time USCIS needed funding and was not given any despite Dems trying to push for it? Living under a rock? Lmao. And to be completely honest both options Trump/Biden are just as bad but hey not much any of us can do about it. Feel sorry for all the sheep out here for one side or the other

Doubt it, Biden will make sure they all quality for a fee waiver. So then we will see 11 million new petitions that need to be processed with no extra money for doing so. But who knows, it's anybody's guess right now. I don't worry about the bridge crossing until I approach it.
