Tax returns are personal data and there are no requirements for any presidential candidate to release those, but it is interesting to see the Left embrace a tradition that started with Richard Nixon.  If anyone has any faith in the IRS and its auditing process, I doubt there would be anything in Trump's personal tax returns other than confirming his likely over stating his own personal wealth.  If there are illegal activities contained in his returns, then every auditor in the IRS and NY that reviewed these should be summarily fired.

then it shouldnt be an issue to give them to cy vance or release them and dispell all doubt of impropriety right? i mean if there is something that exonerates you from all the baseless accusations, seems like the easiest thing to do would be to release them and laugh while the people trying to say there is something there have an apoplectic fit when there is nothing

 

kinda like just releasing a dna sample to e jean carrols attorney to exonerate you then countersue for defamation

If a prosecutor demanded that you just hand over your tax returns, what would you do?  What would your lawyer recommend you doing?  Cy Vance is clearly following a partisan play that much like the Mueller probe with cost those in NY State a lot of money and produce nothing.  Maybe that is why Cuomo is begging those that moved out of NY to come back.  Btw, NY State is relentless in pursuing people that move out of their state for apparent tax reasons, so again, if these returns are so bad from a legal standpoint, I would think there would have already been a prosecution.  Trump has been in business for a long time.

 

My only suggestion is for those on the Left wishing for some kind of prosecution of Trump either by the Biden DOJ, or NY State, don't get your hopes up.  For those wishing for a renewal in public executions, well, there are extremist on the Left as well.

if the tax returns had nothing to hide and would exonerate me, i would have no problem turning them over, a lawyer would be able to advise whether it would be prudent, but thats a part of discovery. noone has tested whether a municipality or state can charge a sitting president, so no there wouldnt necessarily be a prosecution yet.

Yeah, a lot of folks have thought this.  The most general recommendation if for one to invoke one's right to remain silent.  If you go back and review the most recent past Presidents, I am sure there would be things that they could have been prosecuted for either while in office, or after they left.  No one was perfect over the past 50 years, from starting wars, to spying on USCs, I am sure someone could find something to investigate.
