I130 Marital Status question

That is correct. Remember that the I-130 form is a multi-purpose form. It is used to petition spouses, children, parents and siblings. They all use the same form. So some questions don’t really make sense for a spouse (but they do for a parent or a sibling petition). But no question must be ignored. Answer every one of them, no matter how many times it has already been asked.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Thanks. I did. I am just amazed at the logic, or lack thereof.

There is plenty of logic. The form is the same form to petition any relative. Once you understand that, the form will make more sense.

I used to do technical writing for operating manuals. It is confusing. Needs to be better written.

Well the best option would be a different form for each category. But this is the way the government has decided to do it, presumably to reduce costs. Don’t overthink anything in this process. Go through and answer each question one by one, exactly as it is asked. It’s the only way to get through the process.

Yes, I understand the drill from my military days. No point in questioning it. :)  I am lucky I suppose. My buddy from those military days went through the process last year when he had to print out everything and take it to Bangkok to submit. He said it took him 6 months. Went back last March. He was telling me this would take longer, as they closed the office in the embassy that took applications. I told him it all gets uploaded now. He wasn't pleased. I've got the form done. Just waiting on a certificate from the states and a translation of my home registry here to upload.

I think my only other hurdle, is what is acceptable for financial support evidence. I have been retired here 2 years. Wondering if social security statements and statements from my Australian retirement account will suffice for annual income? Bank statements as well perhaps?

I had a friend who did technical writing, for GM. He did not have an ounce of sense about a car. To beat all, he did not have a driver's License. Does that make sense.

For the car industry, probably not. I was a field engineer, installing semiconductor manufacturing equipment. I had to write operator manuals on a laptop in my hotel at night to teach with the next day.

Good idea to reference and cross-reference your dates, times, answers

Tax returns and bank statements usually does it.  Assets are optional.  If you are close to the minimum, add them, if not, it’s up to you.  Usually a good idea to clearly demonstrate the value basis and source of the assets.
My package looked very much like the document set you would submit to a mortgage lender.  Tax returns for previous years, paystubs and matching bank statements from Jan of the current year.  Always worked for me.  We keep leaving the country and returning.  I gotta submit a new affidavit every time (well not anymore, she has 40 quarters of SS earned under my record).  I musta submitted 5-6 dang affidavits.  Never had a problem.
