I got updated status via email about the interview. I have to take the medical examination, as I didn't submit the I-693. How long would it take to actually receive the letter for interview and time until I have to appear for the interview (approximation)? Shall I go ahead and get the medical examination part done, while waiting for the interview schedule?

Meanwhile, I have been working to keep all the documents ready and in order - copies and originals. Copies of submitted applications and all the I-797 notices, all the proofs of relationships.

I would appreciate inputs , especially someone from the recent interview experience. Thanks a bunch!

"Ready to schedule" is different from "Interview was Scheduled".

For some people it takes a couple weeks between them. For others it takes years. It all depends on how backlogged your field office is. I waited 10 months to get an interview after the ready status in NYC.

Wait for the status to change to scheduled and then do the medical.

Do you have some kind of email or letter saying you have to do medical ,, the approved list of hospital is going to ask for that letter with your passport scanned so they can give you an appt. I just did that last week .

This is what the email says,

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Testing and Interview

As of November 6, 2020, we are ready to schedule your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number xxxxxx, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

If your case status indicates that you are currently in this step, you have either been scheduled for an interview or are in line to be scheduled for an interview. The amount of time your application will remain in this step will vary by office and is largely determined by the number of cases ahead of yours. The interview notice will have specifics about time, location and anything you will need to bring to your interview. If your application remains pending beyond our normal processing times (as shown below) please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283. Please note that not every application/applicant will require an interview. In some instances, an interview is required by regulation and others an interview is requested because USCIS has determined that this is the most efficient means to determine eligibility. For a naturalization application the interview will include your taking the required English and/or Civics tests (unless exempt or waived).

  • Log-in to your myUSCIS account to view your case history and understand what you can expect to happen next on your case.
  • Current processing times can be found on the USCIS website at under Check Processing Times.

I have a feeling you are at a different process, but your timeline isn't updated to know.  If you are filing from within the US, you don't need that letter - If you are filing overseas, then yes you do.

Thank you, that's what I thought too , what if I just have few days or may be about 2 weeks. My biometrics letter arrived exactly two weeks before the appointment. I called one of the nearest USCIS listed clinics, waiting for them to call back for any available slots. I have been juggling between the pros and cons of getting it done, while not have to stress out at the last minute. I think, I might decide in a day or two, also based on the call from the clinic.

If you can, use the time now to get your vaccines through a different doctor and your health insurance.  We got all of my husband's vaccines in advance and brought proof to the appointment that he had his vaccines.  I just wish that we had thought to do STD testing, because they slammed us with a $300 cash only charge for that.

I called the nearest clinic, listed under the USCIS, and they said the same to wait for the actual appointment and get it done, else chances are it is going to expire. I will wait for the interview letter.

Thank you, everyone, for your inputs.
