Depends on how inclusive you calculate this.. If you are speaking of all costs associated from the beginning of your relationship (travel, phone, gifts, fees, etc..) it can easily be that much...

YMMV

Not that much, but be prepared to spend at least 3000+ If you get a lawyer involved then add more.

I-129F Fee

Airfare

Consular fees

Medical fees

AOS fees ($1010) after July 30

Lifting conditions 2 years after AOS

Perhaps Citizenship (fees)

Lawyer?

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

It depends on whether or not you hire a lawyer. For us, a lawyer was too expensive and really not necessary. Unless you're terribly busy or you've got an unusal case, I would skip the lawyer. Mind you, some folks really do need one, but I would try to go without if you can.

As for how much it costs to bring your honey to the US, I would expect a you can safely bet on involving a couple grand when you look at the big picture. For example, I went to Morocco twice and each set of tickets was about $900. Add on meals, hotels, etc. and I'd say we spent a good $1500 on each trip total. Then you've got things like overseas calls. We spent a good $100 a month on long-distance calls (this is good for proof of relationship, to provide call logs). There's all the photographs you take, all the letters and packages you send, etc. Of course these things are dual purpose, they are important to keep your relationship going and keep you from going nuts from separation. But they also provide your proof of an ongoing relationship, which you will be asked to prove at least once. Then you've got the filing fees for K-1, the medical exam, and then the actual wedding, the marriage license, AOS fees, etc. It varies from person to person as to how much you're going to spend, but you can see what to expect.

Some folks have spent more than most, and its not like you have to have all this money up front, we certainly didnt. It just builds over time. Might I suggest you take out a small loan to help you? I took out a 6-month shot-term loan to cover the cost of my first trip to Morocco and it worked out quite well. Might not be your thing, but its an idea.

They may be talking about total costs with airfare for two, rent, utilities, etc. . It has cost us about that much, this included 5 months of being unemployed which we did not initially anticipate, the adam walsh act came into affect the day before we filed and we had originally planned on doing direct file but had to file K3 instead.

Thats not fair to say, he/she may not have ALOT of money or willing to sell his house, car and stocks just yet. Just bc someone asks about the costs of this process, doesnt mean hes anyless commited than you.

It depends on where you are in the process and how inclusive you are in the cost. If you haven't made the first trip yet and you plan to make two trips and bring her here, that's a pretty good range for your overall costs. If you make only one trip, then maybe you can stay under 6k.

The actuall fees to get her here are less than a thousand dollars but you'll need to pay another thousand shortly after she arrives, in order adjust her status to permanent resident.

Exactly what I was thinking. It never hurts to find out the cost, then atleast he/she will know how much needs to be saved.

Good Luck

But you don't pay 6k at one time. First you pay for the I-129F (do that now before the fees go up), then you pay for plane tickets, doctor, AOS, etc...

Anyway, it's worth every penny.

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

It is expensive in the long run, you dont ofcorse pay it all at one time, and it will be over $500. when you take in concideration the petition costs, medical, police record, visa, airline ticket, AOS and so on. But take it as it comes, be prepared and good luck with everything. :)

You are not counting travel or adjustment of status. Your AOS fees alone will be $1010. I know she's an angel but her wings won't get her here. Somebody is going to buy a plane ticket.
