Hello!
I’m just so confused.

My SSN says that I am Vladislav (my first name) Ivan (first name of my father) Sladkov (my last name). So the just took my patronymic and gave me the middle name.

I’m from Russia and we have patronymics but as I understood it’s not a middle name, is it? I’m so confused how to file documents. What does my future fiancé need to put in the box about my middle name?

In Russian style I’m Sladkov (surname) Vladislav (first name) Ivanovich (patronymic)

Im scared of not filling these documents correctly. And I’m looking for the help.
Best regards

Hi there.

I also have a patronymic name (although it’s not in my passport, just on my birth certificate) and I left the middle name blank and put it on the section about “other names”. I put the following in the middle name section - Patronymic: [my patronymic name]. Not sure if that’s correct but it made sense to me because there’s usually no such thing as middle names in post-Soviet countries. Hope this helps! Maybe others can also chime in.

I just have my patronymic in my passport too. Also on my ssn they just erased this postfix -vich and it arise a lot of questions. Bcs even if patronymic could be written in the middle name section does it have to be in its natural form or without -vich? I have no idea

If I were you I would leave the middle name blank where it asks you for your name (questions 10a,b,c in Part 2). Then in “other names used” I would add Ivan as the middle name (because of the ssn card) and then Ivanovich I would add in the additional information at the end of the I-129f from and just add that it is a patronymic name.

Hello!

In my country we usually have multiple surnames.

As I wanted to keep one of them, I made my first last name my middle name.

For example it used to be Ana Ferreira Silva. Now it is like this:

First name: Ana

Middle name: Ferreira

Last name: Johnson (my husband’s name).

Hope it helps you.
