Businesses in Major Cities Board Up Ahead of Election As Left-Wing Radicals Plan to 'Create a Crisis'

by Debra Heine - October 30, 2020

[...]  Although officials say "they're not aware of credible threats of violence on or after Election Day," leftists in multiple states are openly planning to hold mass demonstrations and "mobilizations" surrounding the election.

A coalition of over 135 left-wing advocacy groups, including "Stand Up America" and "Indivisible," have announced that they are organizing "Protect the Results" demonstrations in at least 375 cities on Nov. 4.  [...]

That's probably more the source. We have extra police and security on hand tomorrow, and it appears there have been suggestions of violence from groups on both sides of the spectrum, and not necessarily linked to the outcome of the election.

Same here, especially in Beverly Hills which has been the focus of pro-Trump demonstrations recently. I am okay with the boarding up -- it is being done preemptively here and if it helps deter people looking to loot again, great. If nothing happens, great. This time the police are on standby and have stepped up their presence. In general I think the SMPD do a very good job and I trust them to keep us all safe, including businesses.

Posted (edited)

Businesses aren't boarding up from right wingers or the "white supremacists", they're boarding up specifically (almost 100%) because of unhinged leftists, the last handful of months which has been detailed in that riot thread speaks for itself. If they thought Biden would win, they wouldn't be boarding things up, and if the "right wingers" were going to riot and destroy things, they would be boarding up cities with the highest prevalence of conservatives, but instead, again, it's the left. The only people that happen to have a problem with this being said or shown is the left themselves, who tend to rather enjoy the violence and chaos these people perpetrate. The best signal to be sent tomorrow is a big middle finger by putting Trump back in another 4 years. Wouldn't be the end of anything though, would be a start.

Remind me, who has been rioting, looting, and destroying businesses?  I know many want to say this is two sided, and I agree there are radicals on both sides, but recent events seem to be very one sided.

Not so 'ideological'? Volunteer group warns of planned Antifa election violence, regardless of outcome

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has also framed Antifa as an "ideology" rather than a cohesive body, as was depicted by FBI director Christopher Wray.

But, the likes of Lewis and those at the helm of 1AP – comprised of hundreds of volunteers with backgrounds working in law enforcement, government intelligence, military, and special operations – begged to differ.

Lewis said that while they started primarily as a security service, efforts on intel collection have ramped up in recent months, which includes a significant number of their volunteers quietly "embedding" with Antifa-like wings. Their intel efforts, he said, have also brought to life a trove of documents that indicate Antifa is far from a hodge-podge, spur-of-the-moment mobilization.

3 self-proclaimed members of the far-right 'boogaloo' movement were arrested on domestic terrorism charges for trying to spark violence during protests

  • Three self-proclaimed members of the far-right "boogaloo" movement were held on domestic terrorism charges after federal prosecutors accused them of trying to spark violence during police brutality protests in Las Vegas.
  • The "boogaloo" movement was defined in the charging document as "a term used by extremists to signify coming civil war and/or fall of civilization." The three men previously served in the US Navy, Army, and Air Force, according to the filing.
  • Each defendant was charged with conspiracy to damage and destroy by using fire and explosives, and possession of an unregistered firearm.
  • According to the filing, the men in late May discussed "causing an incident to incite chaos and possibly a riot" in response to George Floyd's death

Right-wing groups clash with counter protesters in several U.S. states

Andrew Hay
  • (Reuters) - Right wing demonstrators fought with leftist counter protestors in Georgia, Michigan and Oregon on Saturday drawing in riot police and SWAT teams.

Groups ranging from an anti-government patriot group in Portland, Oregon to alt-right Proud Boys in Kalamazoo, Michigan battled anti-fascists and Black Lives Matter activists as months of anti-racism protests increasingly pitted Americans against one another.

Several dozen demonstrators, many armed and carrying Confederate battle flags, staged a rally in the Atlanta suburb of Stone Mountain next to a park famed for its giant monument to leaders of the breakaway slave-holding states.

Riots, white supremacy, and accelerationism

White supremacists are gleeful as police violence and the resulting rioting tear apart cities. Even if the unrest ends in the weeks to come, they may look back at the violence as a win for their side. Some delight in the killing of George Floyd and in police violence against African Americans—“a knee is the new noose!!” exulted one sign held up by white supremacists during protests. It is unclear how much organized white supremacist groups are involved in the violence, and it is easy to use them as an excuse for much broader societal problems related to police violence and systemic racism. For now, any white supremacist involvement appears to be more individual than collective, but even if the violence declines it may bolster an increasingly important white supremacist concept — “accelerationism.” Some white supremacists already see the riots and broader polarization as vindication of this idea, and law enforcement and civil society activists concerned about the growth of extremism should watch to see if this idea takes further hold within white supremacist groups and organizations in the coming weeks and months.
