Getting a visa to travel to the Phillipines for newly born child

Has anybody from the United States on the forum successfully obtained a visa based on the reason that you have a minor child in the Philippines?

My fiance was pregnant with our child and the Consulate here in the USA said they would consider an exception to allow me to travel to the PH on this basis, I sent in a ton of supporting documents, and never heard back from them for over a month, despite constantly leaving messages and emails.

Now my child is born, they are telling me I need to now submit an application based on a minor child living in the PH as my circumstances have changed, so basically start the whole process over.

My problem is my daughter was recently born and one of the requirements is the PSA birth certificate which could take 1-2 months.

Has anyone found themselves in a similar situation to me? I'm finding it really difficult to get any kind of information from the Consulate.

Thanks in advance.

No way to get around this requirement.  You need the PSA BC (with your name listed as the father) to prove that the child is yours.  Were you asked to provide acknowledgement of paternity?

I'm in the process of doing that now, my fiance has sent me the live birth certificate to sign the acknowledgement.

Fair enough, I suppose I will have to wait until I have the PSA birth certificate.

Unless your fiance requested and paid for an expedite your 1-2 month estimate is way over optimistic. Pre covid you were looking at 5-6 months.

My son was born on June 23rd.

We got the PSA birth certificate back in approx. 2 months.

You MUST have a certified copy of the PSA and a signed affidavit from your fiancé, stating that she and your child are currently in the Philippines.

This and the application and fees need to be sent to the Philippine Consulate that services your state.

I know the affidavit sounds stupid, why else would you send for the Visa?

Did they ask you to book a flight and show the itinerary as part of the application? How long did it take to get the visa from when you applied?

That was my experience as well but this was done in 2013.  Child born March 23 2013, had PSA BC in less than 2 months and then immediately applied for passport.  At that time, people with minor children could just walk in and use the "Senior" lane to get a passport.  My sons first flight was to Hong Kong in June 2013.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

You do not have to actually book the flight just print itinerary. But you Do have to prebook covid test and hotel.

See the link here for instructions but please consult the actual consulate for your state, as instructions may vary.

Update: After signing the back of the live birth certificate (acknowledgement of paternity section) in front of a notary in the USA, I sent this to the Philippines via DHL for my fiance to register with the Civil Registrar.

They rejected it, saying that it needs to be notarized by the Consulate.

The Consulate is telling me that they do not notarize any civil registration documents. So I'm at a loss of what to do now.

You need to have the visa in hand for this online process.

Once we got the PSA birth certificate, I just followed the instructions on the CRBA website as well as the instructions from VJ website.

CRBA - Visa Connection Philippines

Sent it all to the US Embassy. We got a reply with a date for interview in a week. Just be sure to include all the information they are requesting, this may prevent you from have to get a DNA test, which takes time and money.

**BE advised** Do not send the paperwork unless you are ready and able to attend the interview. When they send you the interview date, you must go on the date provided. If not, they will send all paperwork back and you submit when you are ready.

My sons interview is on the 19th of this month. I have read that it takes about 2 weeks from an approved interview to receive the passport.

I will keep the site informed of our progress.

VJ isn't related to the visaconnection-philippines website  .....  got a chuckle from that.  ;)

Do keep us all posted, that would be great.   Thanks

How did you get your name on the birth certificate?

I sent a notarized affidavit of paternity to my fiancé before he was born. (be sure she keeps the mailing envelope)  The hospital then put my name on the Civil application when he was born. She had to send the original civil certificate for me to sign then I sent it back for her to submit for the PSA birth certificate.

I know, it was a lot of jumping thru hoops to get it done. But well worth the effort.
