Hey all,

So I received an email today from the Consulate General in Montreal that is asking me to provide proof of my Canadian Citizenship or legal immigration status in Canada.

For me that would be my Permanent Residency card.

This is regarding my K1 Visa Petition that arrived in Montreal after they closed down due to COVID-19 (so no P3 yet, I just have my first ready I assume). This is the first sign for me of movement on my case so I'm really trying to get this done as soon as possible.

Now the email didn't have any further information on which way they want this information, if they want a photocopy in an email, if they want it send out by postal mail to them so I'm not sure what to do.

I haven't for love nor money been able to contact them through phone, I just keep getting bounced around the phone menu, I know some people have been able to contact them through their phone line, so I'm just wondering how you go about this just so I can ask for more information as I'm not sure if this email can be replied to.

Hopefully someone can help you out (there are many many Canada members on this site) with how to reach a live person (have you tried email? at least then it is documented) but I want to point out please do NOT send in your original identification unless it specifically asks for it. Never send original documents especially something as important as your residency card. Good luck.

Thank you, I was thinking I could try to respond to the email regardless with an image of my PR card attached to see if that was sufficient & if not then try to figure out a way to send a copy through courier!

I did figure that it wouldn't be my actual card considering its a plastic card the size of a credit card, but I know sometimes places ask for originals not copies so I just wasn't sure!

I would send a copy in an email as I believe that is how they want the documents requested in P3 to be sent too. They will likely ask for the original at your interview.
